The Intensive Care Department forms part of the Anaesthetics & theatres departments.
The post holder will join the existing team of 6 intensive care consultants at Queen's hospital providing anaesthetic and critical care support to a wide range of surgical specialties. There is a 1:7 service week rota with opportunities for anaesthetic list to suit interests at the Royal Derby Hospital. There is an example job plan in the attached Job Description.
Work was completed on the QHB Site ICU in 2020. There are 8 funded Level ICU beds.
The Adult ITU at Queens Hospital in Burton houses 14 mixed dependency beds. This is up to 8 Level 3 beds. Conveniently located opposite main theatres, the unit's open office space is allocated on the unit with appropriate secretarial support. We admit over 500 patients per year and take pride in being GPICS compliant. We will have 7 consultant staff; although this offers a frequent on-call, the level of acuity is in keeping with a small, but busy, acute hospital site.
The Anaesthetics Department co-ordinates the provision of a comprehensive anaesthetic and intensive care service to all UHDB Hospitals. The Anaesthetic Department is a part of the Surgical Services Directorate comprising Anaesthesia, Surgery and Trauma & Orthopaedics.
In addition to any specialist interests, all consultants will be involved in providing a general clinical service to the Trust.
