About The Role
Purpose: To deliver driver training to the Staff and Officers within Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
Description: This is a diverse role which will see post holders delivering training from a basic driving 'a to b' level right up to our top level of training : that of the advanced response driver. Our courses vary in length from half a day (van training) to four weeks (advance response) giving you a real opportunity to work alongside our personnel as they develop and hone their first:class driving skills. The variety can be as extreme as one day teaching someone how to reverse park, then the next day taking an experienced roads policing officer out for a tactical pursuit and containment (TPAC) refresher course.
If you have driving instruction experience already it will stretch you in a completely new direction as you teach our Officers to respond safely and with progress so that they can deliver our 3 priorities to the residents of the two counties. If you have held a police driving qualification you will learn how to impart those skills to others, it will bring a real sense of satisfaction and achievement. What we do here directly equips our personnel to respond to help the public at their most vulnerable times, or conversely to detain those perpetrators who commit crime.
This is not an easy job : it won't be for everyone. Your progression will be supported by a training programme over some weeks which will need you to commit to a full:time schedule. You will attend our courses as a student prior to delivery and will also be expected to demonstrate an understanding of how adults learn by completion of a three:week College of Policing approved course.
The team is a mix of serving Constables and police staff and sits within the Driving Standards Unit.
