At Renishaw, we’re looking for Process Improvement Engineers who’ll be responsible for the delivery of innovative, efficient, and capable process engineering projects within a high variety, high complexity, and challenging precision optical / electro-mechanical assembly environment. As a Process Improvement Engineer within our Manufacturing Services Division (MSD), you’ll have the chance to make your mark and significantly impact the productivity and efficiency of key production lines, critical to the continued success of the business.
You’ll find this position varies and consequently requires the demonstration and development of your technical, data analysis and communication skills. On-the-job training is a key aspect of joining the team and is used alongside training courses (e.g. Lean six sigma) and manager feedback to ensure efficient integration into your new team, position, and working environment.
Responsibilities
* Become the process expert and main point of contact to produce your product, providing advice on future design changes and their impact on assembly, as well as planning and actioning tasks to allow substantial volume increases.
* Identify and propose changes in the product, determining activities needed to meet larger scale objectives such as quality, delivery, and cost.
* Proactive process development and technical support of optical-mechanical products.
* Investigate process problems and conduct root-cause analysis, implementing robust corrective actions within challenging deadlines.
* Engage in continuous improvement activities using fact-based metrics.
* Analyze process performance data to justify improvement actions.
* Design assembly processes and product interaction equipment (including tooling, jigs, fixtures).
* Process and evaluate design changes.
* Justify, specify, and implement new process equipment.
* Interact regularly with product divisions and support services within the manufacturing services division.
Key requirements
* Qualified to degree level (2:1 or above) in a relevant technical discipline (e.g. manufacturing systems, mechanical engineering, physics, mathematics, etc.).
* A high level of PC literacy.
Desirable requirements
* Proven experience in successfully managing and delivering technically challenging engineering activities.
* Experience applying structured problem-solving and statistical analysis techniques (e.g. Six Sigma).
* Awareness of lean manufacturing tools and techniques and an understanding of production metrics such as productivity, efficiency, and waste.
* Understanding of metrology, measurement techniques, and calibration.
Person specification
As the successful candidate, you’ll have the ability to work well in both a team and autonomously, managing your own activities and meeting deadlines. You’ll understand priorities within your day-to-day work and can spot potential areas for improvement regardless of current tasks. You won’t mind multi-tasking in an ever-changing engineering environment, demonstrating hands-on practical ability when necessary.
