Job overview
We are looking for a Consultant Gynaecologist to join our team of Consultants in Women’s Health at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust, Bristol. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a passion for gynaecology oncology!
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as we develop and expand services offering high-quality care to women in all parts of our service.
Main duties of the job
Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register and have CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from the base hospital for on-call purposes. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidates will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will hold CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be within 6 months of this. They may have additional experience in other specialist areas to meet the needs of the department, but an interest in gynaecology oncology would be welcome.
We expect the postholder to have experience in working in a gynae oncology service, particularly the fast track 2ww pathway. Additional skills to complement the service, e.g., hysteroscopy and ultrasound training are also required.
The postholder will be responsible for the clinical management of patients under their care, and, in liaison with consultant colleagues, continuity of care when the post holder is absent.
The postholder will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff and will be required to take part in a Clinical Audit Programme.
There is a strong research element in our department. The option to develop research to complement our departmental research plans could be negotiated in job planning if or when appropriate. We are developing our women’s health research, participating in multicentre trials in early pregnancy and colposcopy and research projects in fertility.
Person specification
* MRCOG or equivalent
* CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of commencing the post.
* Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
* Clinical training and experience in general Obstetrics & Gynaecology equivalent to that required for UK CCT.
* Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
* Experience in audit projects and quality improvement projects completed.
* Experience in delivering teaching - involvement in the organisation and design of a teaching programme.
* Experience in working in the gynaecology oncology service - particularly the fast track 2ww pathway.
* Additional skills to complement the service, e.g., hysteroscopy, ultrasound training.
* ATSM / SITM / SST in gynaecology oncology.
* Higher academic qualification e.g., MD or MS.
* Evidence of MDT working in a cancer service.
* BSCCP Colposcopy accreditation.
* Completion of a general management course or programme.
