Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £35,000 per year
Location: Field based role across the Sussex Region
It’s an exciting time to join us at Southern Water!
We’re on the lookout for driven individuals from all backgrounds. If you’ve got sharp attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the drive to get things done—we want to hear from you!
You don’t need to have auditing experience to apply—we’ll give you the training and support to develop in the role. What matters is your attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work out in the field making a real impact.
In return, you’ll earn a salary of up to £35,000 per year, enjoy the variety of working outdoors, from home, and in the office, and be part of a growing team helping to protect the safety and integrity of our water network. It’s a unique role where you’ll directly influence customer outcomes, health & safety, and the environment.
You’ll be joining our WN&C Internal Audit team where no two days are the same. You’ll be visiting operational sites, checking on health and safety compliance, water hygiene standards, and investigating any illegal or unauthorised connections to our network. You’ll also provide coaching and feedback to teams across the region to help them work more safely and efficiently.
You’ll get plenty of support to get started, including time with experienced auditors and a full induction. Once you’re up and running, you’ll have the independence to manage your own time and schedule your site visits—typically working 3 days in the field and 2 days at home or an office.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
1. Carrying out field audits focused on Health & Safety and Water Hygiene standards
2. Investigating illegal connections (such as unauthorised standpipes) and making sure the right permits are in place
3. Visiting dig sites and operational works to observe and provide feedback on real-time activities
4. Giving on-the-ground coaching and advice to improve compliance and performance
5. Supporting culture change across the organisation with your insight and ideas
What we’re looking for:
6. Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
7. Strong written and verbal communication skills
8. Confidence in report writing and working independently
9. Ability to spot issues, ask the right questions, and follow through on investigations
10. A background in auditing, compliance, enforcement, or regulated industries is a bonus—but not essential
11. Willingness to learn about our water network and get stuck in at site level
Qualifications:
12. No specific qualifications required
13. An auditing qualification is beneficial, but we’ll support you to get it if needed
The next stage in the process will be an Assessment Day which will be held at our Durrington office and taking place on the 12th May 2025
