The Education Improvement – Equality and Diversity Team is looking to recruit an English as an Additional Language (EAL) Higher Level Teaching Assistant to the team. You will play a vital role in supporting children and young people in learning English and learning about the UK education system so they are more ready to start school. You will work with small groups of pupils focusing on developing English Language and an understanding of UK schools as the children and young people apply and then wait for a school place to be allocated. You will work with pupils from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with the pupils they teach and the wider Equality and Diversity team, including the Ethnic Minority Education Access Officers. They will also plan and deliver EAL/school readiness sessions matched to students' needs and assess their students using an EAL assessment framework. Experience of working with EAL learners in school and knowledge or experience of working with diverse communities is essential. The ability to communicate in a community language other than English would also be helpful but is not essential.
