Exciting opportunities are available to join our Neonatal Service within NHS Lothian at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE). On occasion, we help out the Special Care Baby Unit in St.Johns Hospital Livingston. We have Band 5 positions available for Registered Nurses qualified in either:
* Child Health with experience in another specialty
* Adult Nurses who have critical care experience
We are looking for passionate, caring, motivated people to join our highly skilled neonatal teams. You will be joining friendly, high performing units. We have state-of-the art facilities placing us at the heart of cutting edge health care. Neonatal Services continues to be committed to delivering the best patient care using the best clinical knowledge and technology available. Both units have achieved Level 3 Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation by UNICEF.
The Simpsons Centre within the RIE is a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and has a cot capacity of 39 divided into 3 areas of care:
* 9 Intensive Care Cots
* 8 High Dependency Cots
* 22 Special Care Cots
The Simpsons Centre Neonatal Unit within the RIE has ambitious plans to deliver cutting edge healthcare and has a redevelopment plan in place to re-design our family facilities. We hope to enhance our Family Integrated Care (FICare) we deliver. Additionally, we are committed to achieving BLISS baby charter and received the Pledge of Improvement in February 2023.
What We Can Offer You
You will have a robust 6 week supernumerary induction and work with a range of staff who will support your learning needs and work toward clinical competencies. You will have the opportunity to shadow and work closely with our education team and Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNP’s). On completion of your induction, you will then complete the perceptorship programme (if newly qualified) and IV therapy competencies. After a period of consolidation and working in Special Care, you will then advance to High Dependency after completing the high dependency in-house study day and will have the opportunity to shadow in Intensive Care (RIE). It will then be an expectation to go through a 1 year post-graduate masters level Neonatal Course which will provide you with the theory and skill to become a ‘Qualified in Specialty’ (QIS) nurse and work independently with Intensive Care premature infants from 22 weeks gestation onward.
