Smoking Cessation Practitioner (Training provided)
This role is extremely rewarding in making a difference to people's lives. The role of the Specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner is to support the delivery of evidenced based, equitable stop smoking services to help reduce inequalities throughout the contracted localities. This will include the delivery of services within areas of most deprivation. It is essential that the postholder can work flexibly, independently, and as part of a team.
You will be a motivated, passionate, organised, and proactive individual with relevant healthcare experience in a community or clinical setting; support workers with a background in alcohol recovery, substance misuse, or related fields are particularly welcomed to apply.
Training will be given to ensure staff/applicants are equipped to deliver effective services.
Main duties of the job
Duties and Responsibilities
This post will work under the line management of the Head of Service. The role will be varied, challenging, and rewarding as the service becomes embedded in all local communities across the borough.
Your key responsibilities will be:
1. Motivate and empower clients to make changes to address their addiction.
2. Explain to clients the principles of the nicotine and Stop Smoking Service to enable them to make informed choices.
3. Deliver evidence-based stop smoking interventions, including one-to-one, drop-in, group sessions, telephone, or online support, in accordance with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme.
4. Work with other professionals to embed smoking cessation as part of routine client care.
5. Maximise the impact of smoking cessation on health gains and reduce health inequalities.
6. Understand the analysis of health and equalities data including service data identifying local need to inform local service need.
7. Provide high quality, efficient, and cost-effective services throughout a diverse range of community settings.
8. Lead peer support group sessions for successful quitters following intervention to prevent relapse.
9. Provide evidence-based education in all aspects of smoking cessation and behavioral change as well as ongoing motivational support.
10. Work with individuals to set realistic sustainable goals.
11. Ensure all client and service records are up to date, accurate, and satisfy the ABL Health documentation policies.
Skills and Competencies Required
1. Be an experienced Specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner within the community. (Training will be given)
2. Experience of working with evolving and developing services
3. Positive and proactive outlook with the ability to motivate, engage, and support others to achieve the highest standards and outcomes.
4. Adept in communication; A strong communicator who adapts the message to fit the needs of the audience including clients, staff, and volunteers at all levels.
5. Build strong relationships, foster trust and co-operation among colleagues and stakeholders throughout community settings.
6. Quality driven; you naturally seek high standards and actively seek to improve them.
7. Value and remain open to new ideas and perspectives.

Qualifications
* Higher level education or health/social care/public health/professional qualification, or experience working within smoking cessation or other addiction or behavior change.
Skills and Knowledge
* Skills/knowledge to utilise computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Have a positive outlook with an ability to inspire confidence, provide vision, and motivate people.
* Good communication skills both written and verbal.
* Ability to influence using skills and knowledge.
* Ability to prioritise and organise own workload.
* Understanding concepts of behavior change and how to implement these.
* Understanding and evidence of adhering to information governance policies.
* Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
* Understanding of national guidance and ability to disseminate research and best practice.
* Knowledge of the wider tobacco control agenda.
* Understanding of addiction.
Experience
* Experience of working in community settings.
* Experience of engagement work with key partners within the community.
* Experience of managing own caseload without day-to-day supervision.
* Experience of developing and delivering training to target audiences.

£24,000 to £26,000 a year pro rata part-time.
