As a Senior Software Application Architect, you will report to the NPI/NTI leader. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated and dynamic team of engineers working to develop the solution for the HVDC market.
The development of such Control & Protection systems is technically challenging and involves a variety of engineering disciplines, contribution through teamwork, and an innovative approach.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
1. Support the business' Tendering, Operations, Contractual, and After Sales needs by assessing the customer requirements against reference architecture.
2. Own HVDC controls system architecture definition and prototyping to validate the concept.
3. Define application interfaces which can enable the team to define the low & high level design specifications to develop a controls solution.
4. Play a key role in engineering design reviews and technical leadership, identifying potential project risks and technical weaknesses and proposing safe, reliable, and compliant solutions.
5. Train/coach junior team members to increase the depth of architecture knowledge.
6. Understand the key milestones in a project plan, their financial impact, and ensure the technical risks are understood and mitigated in accordance with the plan.
7. Ensure that project plans contain the necessary activities and studies required to meet the requirements of the customer and the proposed technical solution.
8. Lead improvements to existing solutions towards standardization.
9. Lead the development of new strategies for control, protection, and sequencing (start-up/shut down sequence) to meet customer technical specifications if required.
10. Support continual improvement, raising the effectiveness and efficiency of the team through the introduction of tools, methods, and process improvements and coordinating with the Continuous Improvement leaders.
11. Support a standard product methodology mindset, seek opportunities to re-use solutions, improve quality and reliability whilst reducing the delivery timeline and associated costs.
12. Promote collaboration between all projects and ensure Return of Experience is incorporated.
Qualifications / Essential Requirements
1. Engineering degree or equivalent including power systems and power electronics subjects or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in the HVDC business.
2. A sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage technical risks.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, experienced in creating and presenting technical reports and responding to clients' technical questions.
4. Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements, lead technical discussions with customers, and develop client relationships.
5. Understanding of the functionalities of the Control & Protection system and the interactions between the different functionalities.
6. Appreciate the system hierarchy and constraints such as execution time, delays, bandwidths, redundancy, and physical signal requirements.
7. Able to partition and allocate systems to realize a deployable system.
8. Expert knowledge of Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow and associated toolboxes to define architecture(s).
9. Appreciate coding standards using Mathworks tools, as well as requirement and test generation and linking.
10. Experienced in using Mathworks tools to prototype, study, and refine the applications, and capturing design concepts using system engineering concepts.
11. Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality, and engineering integrity of the solution.
12. Must be flexible with working hours and willing to travel in order to support projects globally.
Desired characteristics:
1. Process improvement or RCA experience or certification.
2. Ability to define requirements and ensure they adhere to best practices.
3. Experienced in technical leadership.
4. Experience working in the HVDC industry.
