About The Role You will be highly skilled and experienced technical leader, act in a technical assurance capacity and help support the development of opportunities and our client’s Shipping Capability within the UK and beyond. You will act as the professional lead for the Production Engineering Capability within the Commercial Shipping area of the business. This is largely in relation to ship structures and construction. With this in mind, I am after someone that can help shape the Production Engineering Capability to meet the current and future needs of our business and customers. You will be involved in every stage of the design process of various types of specialised light weight vessels. You will have opportunity to influence designs and team processes to improve designs, build quality and team efficiency. Your day-to-day work will include technical project leadership, technical bid development, quality assurance of construction and outfit drawings, 3D vessels models, production deliveries and bids. You will be involved with customer interaction and business development activities. Candidate Requirements Candidates will be registered as a Chartered Engineer with an appropriate professional body or be able to demonstrate the ability to achieve Chartered status in the short term. You will have demonstrable experience of working in the maritime domain, within the area of ship structural Production Engineering/Detailed Design. Experience in different hull form types of vessels, use of a variety of construction materials, optimising design for buildability, weight reduction, operation, whole vessel design, various Classification/Code/Flag regulations, outfitting and mechanical arrangement is fundamental to the role; having an understanding or ship / shipyard construction methods, with aluminium vessels (typically 15-70m length) is considered essential. You will have knowledge / skills in 2D and 3D CAD software and be able to produce, and quality assure both CAD and drawing outputs. You will have the ability to communicate and act with integrity with all levels of the business and with customers, promoting a lesson learnt culture and contributing to business success though considered decision making and influencing the employee engagement agenda. Experience or an understanding of working across the entire platform lifecycle, from concept development through to in-service support and disposal is desirable. Most people within the Capability teams are based in the Fareham area, however, the capability is part of the UK and Europe region so a balance of in-office, remote and hybrid working will be considered (other offices are in Glasgow, Plymouth, Bristol and Bath). Travel to our client offices and customer sites will be necessary as and when required (occasional overseas travel may be required). This is a full-time predominantly fee earning role.
