Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the specialist lung cancer nursing team. If you are an experienced band 6 nurse with oncology or respiratory background and a desire to specialise in lung cancer, then this is the job for you. The post is for 37.5 hours a week Monday to Friday 9-5, Fixed Term contract until the end of March 2026. The successful candidate will be a core member of the lung cancer multidisciplinary team. You will be involved in the patient pathway - from referral with suspected lung cancer, through the diagnostic process, (MDT) discussions, & supporting patients & their families at diagnosis. The post holder will be involved in nurse led clinics for holistic needs assessment, best supportive care (palliative) and symptom review. You will be expected to review inpatients and support outpatients via our dedicated telephone help line. You will also be required to work across the hospital sites supporting patients in rapid access and counselling clinics within respiratory, and also be a point of contact for lung cancer patients undergoing treatment both oncological and surgical. Lung Cancer Screening is changing the landscape of diagnosing lung cancer at an earlier stage and will be very exciting to be involved in caring for patients referred via this new route of referral. Main duties of the job To be ward/ department/ outpatient based and work with staff, acting as a role model, providing clinical care under the guidance of the CNS / - Nurse Consultant liaising with the CNS / Nurse Consultant on a regular basis to ensure seamless care.Under the guidance of the CNS / Nurse Consultant manage a patient case load in the ward/department and OPD, including Rapid Access clinics.Support the CNS/ Nurse Consultant in the development and design of care pathway programmes for the patient groups.Provide advice and support to staff in clinical areas.Assist the CNS in the delivery of specialist nursing care to patients in the ward, outpatients and with agreement this may on occasions include delivery of care in patient's own home.
