Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Older Peoples Care Unit Community Mental Health Speech and Language Therapy Service for a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. This post is for 18.75 hours per week.
The successful candidate will be joining a growing and supportive team of Speech and Language Therapists already working in the community and elsewhere within inpatient Mental Health and will benefit from supervision support, active encouragement to access CPD, training and development opportunities.
The post will be supported by the Senior and Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapists and the care unit AHP Lead.
The successful applicant will work across a range of community mental health teams with service users, their families, carers and wider MDT to provide clinical and professional expertise in order that those with speech, language and communication needs and/or dysphagia needs benefit from a well-coordinated pro-active, specialist, efficient and effective speech and language therapy service.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will manage a caseload of both routine and complex cases, provide specialist individual assessment, management, training, advice and liaison through consultative and coaching approaches, as appropriate.
SLTs work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team providing high quality, effective, accessible, person-centred care through tailored packages of care in the most appropriate setting, often the client's home.
Working across a designated geographical area in support and collaboration with a number of community mental health teams and wider speech and language therapy service.

Person Specification
Contractual requirements
* A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post.
Qualifications
* Recognised SLT Degree/Diploma.
* HCPC Registered.
* RCLST Registered.
Training
* Relevant post qualification CPD, including specialist knowledge of swallowing and SLCN.
* Post graduate training specific to client group.
Knowledge
* Specialist applied knowledge of working with adults with swallowing and SLCN with mental health diagnoses (including dementia).
* Knowledge of speech and language communication swallowing tools, assessment and interventions relating to client group.
* Specialist knowledge of how speech and language and communication needs contribute to risk assessment and support management.
* Applied leadership knowledge.
Skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Motivated and a motivator.
* Autonomous and able to work without direct supervision.
* Well organised and able to prioritise a caseload.
* Specialist skills in working with adults with dementia and mental health diagnosis.
Experience
* Experience of assessing and managing a complex caseload with adults with swallowing and SLCN.
* Experience of effective MDT working.
* Experience of evaluation and audit as part of a ST Team.
* Specialist experience of working with people with dementia and mental health diagnosis.
* Post basic dysphagia training or completed competencies.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £37,338 to £44,962 per annum pro rata.
