This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and experienced team of specialist consultant Pathologists across the region, responsible for the provision of Cellular Pathology services.
As part of this role you will have clinical, educational and training responsibilities.
You will provide a clinical diagnostic service, which will include responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, within a multidisciplinary team environment.
You will be involved in training others, in particular trainee pathologists, CESR candidates, and BMS staff.
There has recently been approval and support from 'Welsh assembly government' for an ambitious circa £100 million new build project to amalgamate Hywel Dda and Swansea Bay's Pathology Departments onto a single site along with Swansea University (The 'ARCH' project) to transform Pathology services and create a field leading Centre of Excellence.
This collaborative project between two University Health Boards, along with Swansea University and focuses on health and science working together, to improve the health, wealth and wellbeing of the people of South West Wales and will promote research, training and skills to help deliver, innovation and sustainable employment.
Therefore we would like to invite applicants with aspirations to develop diagnostic services and research to a leading standard and establish outstanding national and international recognition in their areas of specialist expertise.

Clinical, Education & Training
* Provide a clinical diagnostic service that includes responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, within a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Provide training for trainee pathologists, CESR candidates and BMS staff.
* Have responsibility for the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the services in which you work.
* Contribute to quality improvement and report any concerns relating to patient safety.
* Participate in the Health Board's risk management process, clinical governance and any other healthcare governance activities.
* Maintain a licence to practice through revalidation, to undergo satisfactory annual appraisal and to formulate a Personal Development Plan.
* Participate in personal and professional development to fulfil the Royal College of Pathologists and GMC requirements.
* Opportunities to become an 'Educational Supervisor' and to develop a specific teaching interest which will be integrated into their job plan, including an honorary clinical lecturer/ associate professor/professorial positions.
* The job is based around a standard 10 session job plan, negotiable at job planning.
The Appointee(s) will be based at Glangwili Hospital and, in conjunction with the other Consultant Histopathologist.
Specialty interests are flexible and can be discussed following shortlisting or at interview with the clinical director, Dr John Murphy.
