The post holder will become a part of the Paediatric Emergency Nursing (PEN) team. A team of Paediatric Nurses at Band 5 and Band 6 who work closely with staff within the Emergency Department, the Paediatric Assessment Units (PAU), and inpatient wards at each hospital site. This is a career development pathway, when the skills are evidenced against the Band 6 criteria the post holder will be uplifted to a Band 6. If the applicant meets the criteria at offer of employment, they will commence employment at a Band 6.
The operating hours for this service was expanded to 8am -11pm; subsequently we have a 2-shift profile. This is an 8am to 8:30pm shift and a 10:30am to 11pm shift, which equates to an 11.5-hour shift with an hour unpaid break, seven days a week.
There is a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to oversee the management of this team and provide clinical expertise for children being cared for in an ECC.
The purpose of the PEN team is to:
• see children in the ECC to deliver a high-quality standard of care to them and their families
• work closely with all relevant professionals to ensure there is a collaborative approach to providing care and addressing safeguarding matters
• to promote safe and effective care to children 24/7
• to ensure timely discharge or transfer to an assessment/inpatient bed

Our Paediatric Emergency Nursing (PEN) team is continuing to grow, and is now looking for further Band 5 Paediatric Nurse, to work with us in caring for children within our emergency department at Grimsby Hospital.
The successful applicant will be working closely and alongside the existing team of Paediatric Nurses in the Paediatric Assessment and Observation Unit (PAOU), nursing staff and medical staff in ECC, along with other specialities.
We are working in a 'flying squad' model acting as an advocate for children in ECC who are acutely unwell, and their parents/carers, in being a role model for all staff, showing respect for colleagues, always acting with kindness and having the courage to challenge practice that does not meet the needs of children.
Experience working with children in an ECC and/or Paediatric Assessment Unit would be an advantage, training will be given for skills required for minor injuries as described in the job description.
This position will be based at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, within our cross-site service. You will be responsible to a Band 7 Sister working across both sites.
