We are currently seeking a TOPS Controller to join our Control team based in Peterborough. This role will contribute by: Controlling, in real time, all TOPs and TRUST data for GB Railfreight services Ensuring all services are adequately consisted and running with a valid train list whilst reflecting accurate Fleet data Monitoring the GB Railfreight/Network Rail Track Access contracts Proactively monitoring all train services in liaison with the Performance team investigating delays and suggesting corrective actions Maintaining the maintenance records of GB Railfreight’s varied Fleet The Control department is a 24/7, 365 days of the year operation. You can expect to be rostered for 12 hour shifts which include days, nights, weekend and bank holiday working. Closing date: 2nd January 2024 Responsibilities include: Ensure the Control Team operate a safe, punctual and reliable train service for all customers Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements Ensure that all GBRf Train services are correctly consisted in TOPS/TRUST in order that Network Rail have full visibility of vehicles operating our services safely Support and assist other TOPS reporting locations, addressing issues based on priority Provide coverage for other TOPS reporting locations when necessary Accurately input TOPS late start codes into systems for reported trains, ensuring proper attribution of Level One TRUST Delay Data and monitoring further incidents to address reactionary delays effectively Communicate late start information from terminals or ground staff to the Train Service Controller promptly Notify the Train Service Controller of any scheduling errors, including missing, incorrect, or incomplete schedules, and take corrective action as needed Ensure through contact with traincrew that all documentation required for safe train operation is in order, and that discrepancies are acted upon promptly Ensure all information with regard to dangerous goods are managed correctly, and that Traincrew have the supporting documentation Ensure all TOPS or Dangerous Goods Discrepancies are reported to the Train Service Controller and logged accordingly Communicate the plan revisions to the Train Service Controller/Duty Control Manager Collation of Train Running and Performance Data using tools provided Perform Duties as directed by the Duty Control Manager and Control Manager Ensure all TOPS records of Wagon Maintenance are kept updated in a timely fashion in conjunction with the Engineering Team and Maintenance Contractors Notify the Train Service Controller of any wagon maintenance issues or defects promptly, ensuring a timely resolution Archive all generated paperwork to ensure records are maintained in accordance with agreed retention periods. Create a detailed handover for the next shift to ensure continuity Continuously strive to enhance the quality and cost-efficiency of GB Railfreight’s TOPS facility, proactively identifying and addressing problem areas Essential GCSE qualifications in Maths and English, or equivalent Proficiency in IT, with strong computer skills Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of work The ability to effectively multi-task and maintain composure in high-pressure situations Strong organisational and time management abilities to manage workloads efficiently A conscientious and diligent approach to work, with the capacity to focus on detailed information for extended periods Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with a customer-focused mindset Solid geographical knowledge Experience in railway planning or the rail industry is desirable This role requires someone who not only meets the technical criteria but also places customer satisfaction at the forefront, ensuring a high-quality service in all interactions.
