The Opportunity
The Information Technology Department provides information technology expertise and professional services to all City departments, affiliated agencies (Barrie Public Library, Barrie Police Services) and area municipalities receiving Barrie fire dispatch services. The Department is responsible for delivering, administering, managing and supporting (in partnership with the business units) all data and voice communications, including but not limited to network infrastructure, servers, storage infrastructure, printers, computing infrastructure, applications and software, databases, web services, geographic information systems, and project and portfolio management. The Department provides daily technology support to over 1100 users at more than 40 City locations across the City.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Data & Analytics, the Data Analyst position is responsible for the design and implementation of internal reporting structures (dashboards, reports, metrics, toolkits, templates, solutions, etc.) to measure progress and enable key program areas to achieve strategic outcomes. This position owns the methodology and dashboard process to effectively identify, monitor, and report on critical metrics to evaluate these initiatives. Overall, this position plays an integral role in determining data requirements, appropriate analytic methods for use of data and reporting to support information sharing for decision making and funding allocation.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
* Four (4) year University Degree in Data Science and/or Data Analytics or a related discipline
Experience
* Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position
* Demonstrated experience in a data analytics environment, supporting and managing data solutions/data warehouses/lakes and business systems using visualization tools and related technologies
* Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships and achieving desired performance outcomes while maintaining a positive working relationship
* Demonstrated experience with Data Visualization tools such as Power BI, Power BI Service, Microsoft Business Intelligence platform (SSIS,SSAS) or equivalent
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
* Working knowledge of Data Visualization, Business Intelligence practices, data modelling, analyzing and reporting techniques
* Demonstrated ability to:

* Intermediate computer literacy using Power BI, Database software including Microsoft SQL and related components (SQL Management Studio, Analysis Services, Reporting Services, Azure, Microsoft Fabric), Transact-SQL (T-SQL), Microsoft Visual Studio
* Availability on a rotational basis to assist with after-hours questions, concerns, or emergencies; to attend evening/weekend meetings or special events; or to work outside of designated normal hours per week

*Please note that the City has a Hybrid Work Program Procedure that may allow a hybrid work arrangement for employees who meet the eligibility requirements.
Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
