Job Description – Mechanical Project Engineer
Edinburgh Designs, a global market leader in wave and current research facilities, is looking to recruit a mechanical engineer to join our engineering team in our Edinburgh office.
You will be working as part of a world-renowned, expert engineering team creating innovative electro-mechanical systems for our international client base. You will be responsible for the design and on-site builds for a large range of projects, involving global travel and on-site experience.
The job will be approximately 25-50% site-based. Travel to site or supplier factories to supervise manufacturing, installation, and commissioning, and carry out acceptance tests will be a key part of the role. Upcoming sites include Plymouth, Malta, Singapore, Taiwan, Cyprus, and various sites in the USA.
The role requires a diligent and hands-on person who is prepared to work in a construction site or machine shop environment. Office-based work will be required for the procurement side of the job.
* Manage the procurement and workshop assembly for Edinburgh Designs’ wave, flow, and carriage machines.
* Assist in the design and development of mechanical systems and components.
* Identify and purchase items from project Bill of Materials.
* Communicate with clients.
* Record stock and order parts.
* Order tools and consumables.
* Prepare manuals, technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
* Organise shipments to and from suppliers and to job sites.
* SolidWorks modeling, design, simulation, and technical analysis, engineering drawings, prototyping, and assembly work.
* Conduct research and contribute to problem-solving for various mechanical engineering challenges.
* Hands-on assembly of Edinburgh Designs machines.
* Manage a multi-disciplinary team of technicians.
* Liaison with clients' staff including project managers and health and safety officers.
* Liaison with Edinburgh Designs engineers in the office.
* Recording of faults and issues on site.
Essential Education and Skills
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
* Experience with prototyping or hands-on mechanical work.
* Practical diagnostic and repair skills including stripping and rebuilding machines, soldering, etc.
* Familiarity with workshop tools including using bearing pullers, SDS drills, Mag drills, grout pouring, etc.
* Strong understanding of engineering principles, mechanics, and materials science.
* At least 3 years practical experience working in a similar field.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work with external partners and clients.
* Ability to understand documentation and datasheets for system components such as bearings, pumps, motors.
* A proven track record of problem-solving and a keen ability to learn.
* Settled status in the UK.
* Can-do attitude with the ability to roll up sleeves to get the job done.
* Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills.
Desired Skills
* Practical machine shop manufacturing skills using lathe and mill.

Remuneration:
Salary: £28,000 - £33,000 a year depending on experience.
Job type: Full-time.
Supplemental pay types: Performance bonus & £3600 EOT tax-free bonus (not in the first year).
