The Digital Media Assessment Team at CTP South East provides specialist support to regional Counter Terrorism related investigations. As an active part of these investigations, our role is primarily to assess, investigate, and interpret various forms of data sourced by a range of law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Our expertise lies in our ability to identify breaches in Terrorism Legislation and recognize the various different extremist ideologies held by subjects of interest. Our findings contribute significantly to the investigation of those suspected of involvement in terrorism offences.
Due to an uplift in staff, we have an exciting opportunity for multiple Digital Media Assessors (DMA) to join the team in the coming months. The successful candidate(s) will have the ability to make critical decisions, work under pressure, be proficient in problem-solving, have excellent attention to detail, and be able to work to tight schedules and deadlines. They will view, assess, analyze, and interpret data in various forms, writing comprehensive reports of their findings from various digital devices, mobile phones, computers, multimedia, and CCTV exhibits. They will then brief the investigation team directly on their findings and advise investigators on behalf of the Digital Media Assessment Team.
Successful candidates should therefore have a good understanding of the types of digital data available on devices such as mobile phones and computers. They will ideally have a working knowledge of common device operating systems, software/applications, social media platforms, and basic internet technologies, along with proven experience in relevant areas e.g., investigative skills, digital media review, analytical skills, interpretation of data, navigation, and use of Microsoft products.
Candidates would also benefit from having prior experience/awareness of Forensic assessment software such as Cellebrite Reader and Magnet Axiom's Portable Case in order to review the Digital Data. They must be able to successfully pass core courses in relation to the understanding and reviewing of Mobile Forensic Data as set by the National Operational Development Unit and the College of Policing.
Please note, due to the kinds of digital data we can come into contact with, successful applicants must also have the necessary physical/emotional resilience to deal with disturbing and offensive images (i.e., extreme violence, obscenity, and depravity). They will be required to pass a psychological assessment prior to starting in the role and will complete yearly screenings once in role.
Language skills, in particular European, Middle Eastern, or Asian based languages, are desirable for this role but not essential.
You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand, and occasionally this may require working away from home. For this reason, a full UK Driving Licence is essential to the role. You will also be required to perform on-call arrangements for immediate response as required across the South East region.
Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us, and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC together with a number of enhanced security checks. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.
