Job Overview This role covers at least two ward areas at Frimley Park Hospital. This includes a 33 bed gastroenterology ward and a soon to be opened 14 bed general medical ward - Ward F15. There may be additional areas added in the future. Currently there are no Clinical Nurse Specialists to be managed, as part of this Matron portfolio but management of specialist nurses will be required in the future. Undertaking the role of Matron of the day to ensure there is safe nursing staffing at least one day per week on the Frimley Park Hospital site and attending Wexham Park Hospital 2 days per month Main duties of the job The post holder will have clinical and managerial responsibility for a defined clinical portfolio at Frimley Health Foundation Trust, predominantly Wexham Park Hospital. The Matron will also have a defined set of relevant requirements specific for the core area of responsibility this will be defined by the Head of Nursing. The post holder will report directly to the Head of Nursing. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within the relevant setting. They will be easily identifiable to clients and users, provide strong, visible leadership and have the appropriate level of authority to provide support, advice and assistance required by patients, their families and carers. Emphasis on the areas of Patient/Client Safety, Patient Experience, User engagement and Clinical Outcomes will be essential. The post holder will have lead clinical responsibility for supporting the Head of Nursing in activities relating to the delivery of high quality services, including involvement in maintaining activity levels, managing service pressures and maintaining the highest standards of care. They will lead on delegated projects on behalf of the Head of Nursing. They will provide support to the Head of Nursing for day to day operational issues and deputise as deemed appropriate. Performing the role of Matron of the day to ensure there is safe staffing in the medical directorate. Person specification Qualifications, Essential criteria Registered Nurse. 1st level with current NMC Registration. Educated to degree level, working towards or equivalent experience. Evidence of on-going professional development in a recognised nursing field of practice. Recognised leadership development training Desirable criteria Educated to master’s degree level. Experience Essential criteria Demonstrable significant experience at senior clinical/managerial level. Desirable criteria In-depth experience in a variety of hospital units Involvement in clinical audit and/or research.
