Position Overview:
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the educational and personal development of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This position requires someone with a genuine passion for working with children, particularly those requiring additional support, and the ability to provide tailored assistance to meet their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Work closely with classroom teachers to support the learning and development of SEND students in mainstream classrooms.
* Provide one-to-one assistance and small group support to students with SEND, ensuring they are able to fully participate in classroom activities.
* Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Plans for students with SEND, monitoring progress and adapting strategies as necessary.
* Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their self-esteem and confidence in their abilities.
* Collaborate effectively with other professionals, including SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), educational psychologists, and external agencies, to provide holistic support for students.
* Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, contributing to the overall assessment and evaluation process.
Requirements:
* A relevant qualification related to working with children in schools, such as Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning.
* Proven experience working with SEND/SEMH children in an educational setting.
* Confidence and competence in working one-to-one with children, demonstrating patience, empathy, and adaptability.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and external professionals.
* A commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity within the school community.
* Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance, or willingness to obtain this prior to appointment.
