Technician - Design Ashby School is looking to add to its student support team with a technician for it’s large and extremely popular design faculty following the retirement of our long-standing technician. We are a large and busy secondary school, with design being a very popular subject in our new Key Stage 3 but also in KS4 and 5 where students can study a range of design subjects including Engineering at GCSE and A level. Our technician will work alongside our teaching staff to facilitate resources and activities to support learners in a range of ways alongside supporting the smooth running of the faculty through facilitating the administration requirements of the team such as ordering, communicating with parents and students and producing resources. This role will operate alongside our existing Design technician who focusses on support for food and textiles areas. We seek a candidate who is interested in practical working with a variety of materials and is willing to work with our design machinery including band saws and lathes alongside some of our new technology such as 3D printers. We would welcome experience in these aspects of the role though full training will be offered. We also seek someone who is willing to supervise small groups of students completing practical work alongside a willingness to accompany our extensive trips and visits and work as a first aider. We are interested in candidates who like the variety that working in a school can bring and who work well in a team but who also have the capacity to be an independent problem solver. Whose values match ours, whose ethos resonates with our school, who is invested in the promotion of young people through the value of education and who thrive on working in a busy and buzzy environment. If this is you, we would love to hear from you This post would also be ideal for someone considering a future in education or who is looking for experience to support an application to train as a teacher. Full access to our Continuing Professional Learning programme can be facilitate for this purpose. Closing date for applications is 9am Monday 2nd September 2024.
