Job summary The Laboratory Medicine Service is spread across four hospital sites within Swansea Bay University Health Board. We are set up as a hub and spoke network of laboratories with the hub laboratory based in Morriston Hospital and spoke laboratories at Singleton Hospital (7 miles from Morriston) and Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend (25 miles from Morriston). The laboratories are extremely well equipped with Roche, Sysmex and Ortho analysers, and have full accreditation with UKAS, MHRA and IBMS training status. Swansea Bay Laboratory Medicine team is keen to modernise our service through embracing new ways of working, are committed to developing our knowledge and skills and actively seek to develop others into a professional multidisciplinary team. Applicants who do not hold MSc but are working towards this will be considered. This will be under A4C Annex 21 of band 7. Main duties of the job The post holder will act as an experienced specialist registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS) managing a section of the SBUHB Laboratory Medicine Department that provides a continuous and comprehensive Laboratory Medicine service as an aid to effective diagnosis and treatment following departmental procedures. They will apply specialist skills and experience to perform and supervise a wide range of complex analyses. Certify the analytical and technical validity of investigations carried out in sections of responsibility, liaising with clinical and Laboratory Medicine staff to ensure diagnostically abnormal results are actioned urgently. Be expected to work independently and will maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff development and training. This is a multi-site, Laboratory Medicine post with SBUHB wide responsibilities. The postholder will be required to rotate with other section managers or specialist seniors as appropriate.
