Health, Safety & Environment Manager
Manchester City Centre
£45,000 - £55,000 per annum Negotiable upwards dependent on experience
40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
My client is a leading UK property developer, currently seeking an experienced and qualified Health and Safety Advisor to advise on building safety management, within the company and across their high and low-rise apartment blocks and offices.
As a Buildings Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the company complies with all statutory and non-statutory safety responsibilities in relation to legislation and building regulations.
You will also ensure a high level of building safety across all of their developments, with the welfare and safety of staff, residents and other building users being your top priority.
Key responsibilities
* Assist, develop and maintain information management systems for the safe management of buildings, maintaining accurate records and systems.
* Provide advice and ensure compliance with regulations on fire and building safety, legionella, asbestos, electrical and gas.
* Conduct audits and inspections in accordance with a monitored programme.
* Identify building hazards and ensure remedial works are undertaken.
* Communicate with residents about the safe management of their building.
* Influence a culture of positive health, safety and wellbeing within the company.
* Coordinate the organization and evaluation of disaster recovery drills.
* Ensure the accident, incident and near miss reporting procedure is followed across the developments.
* Establish positive relationships with a wide range of colleagues and suppliers.
* Provide advice to company employees, senior managers, managers and staff, on all aspects pertaining to health, safety and environmental matters.
* Arrange and carry out site safety and environmental audits and safety inspections, maintain records of audits and inspections and ensure necessary corrective measures are agreed and implemented.
* Assist with incident/accident investigations.
* Assist with investigating the environmental implications of the company’s activities and suggesting actions which may prove beneficial to the environment, the company or others.
* Continuously seek, propose and implement agreed H&S and environmental performance improvements.
* Support on our current cultural drive to improve health, safety and environmental standards on company projects and offices.
* Provide statistical data to the director responsible for SHE to demonstrate where improvements can be made.
* Identify root cause analysis of any incidents occurring.
* Maintain regular contact with all project teams and office managers to advise on SHE matters.
Qualifications, skills and experience
* NEBOSH Health & Safety Qualified.
* Demonstrable knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022.
* Experience of H&S within high-rise residential apartment blocks.
* A relevant Fire Safety qualification accredited by the IFE or IFSM or equivalent.
* Relevant experience in environmental matters and a good understanding of ISO 14001.
* Comprehensive knowledge of H&S legislation and practice in Construction and Property Sector(s), residential apartments blocks or similar.
* Solid understanding of high-risk residential buildings including fire risk, construction and M&E.
* Motivated, driven and passionate about improvement of H&S.
* Good communicator, with a positive, pragmatic mindset and a can-do attitude.
* Accountable, self-motivated and results driven.
* Excellent IT skills including the use of Office packages.
* Able to work closely and establish positive relationships.
* Experience in carrying out compliance inspections and audits.
* Ability to travel to all offices and buildings within the portfolio on a regular basis.
* A full clean UK driving licence.
* Relevant CSCS Card.
* Ability to work clearly and accurately under pressure and tight timescales.
* Membership of a relevant organisation (IOSH / IIRSM).
