Job Description
The EMC and TEMPEST Engineer will be responsible for guiding the designs and testing of one or more projects simultaneously, within the Cyber UK Operational Business Unit, which delivers multiple concurrent research, development and production programmes.
The programmes undertaken by Cyber UK, in which this role sits, range from tens of £k to several £m. Team sizes vary depending upon the complexity of the programme, but can be up forty members, particularly when hardware, software and firmware development is required, across multiple sites.
Responsible for / Key responsibilities
* Keep up to date with relevant EMC and TEMPEST standards.
* Participate is requirements reviews and make contribution to the applicable EMC and TEMPEST standards.
* Review the relevant test and control plans to ensure that the products will be adequately tested for EMC and TEMPEST.
* Liaise with the test houses to ensure that they are appropriately trained on the product and supporting equipment.
* Visit test houses during testing and resolve any issues.
* Estimate time and effort required for the test activities to ensure cost and schedule adherence.
* Work constructively with other project team members, actively contributing to design reviews, to ensure a collaborative working environment.
* Explains technically complex concepts clearly to less technical/involved parties.
* If and when EMC or TEMPEST related failures arise, to determine the cause and work with the engineers to find solutions which ideally should not require major changes to the hardware.
* Manage security of information as defined in the Security manual to ensure compliance with Government regulations.
Qualifications / skills required
Essential:
* Degree in an Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Extensive experience of EMC and TEMPEST requirements and testing.
* Be able to investigate EMC and TEMPEST failures and suggest corrective actions.
* Proven track record of collaborative working with the test houses.
* Experience of best practice for right-first-time design for EMC and TEMPEST.
* Either has current SC clearance or be willing to obtain one.
* Must be able to obtain DV clearance
Desirable:
* Willing to work at other Ultra sites, particularly Maidenhead and Gloucester as and when required.
* Able to produce documents to acceptable standards.
* Understanding of engineering processes
