An opportunity is available for a Vehicle Mechanic based in Kettering. Our Transport teams ensure that the National Grid fleet operation is on the road 24/7, 365 days a year. In this role you will help to ensure the vehicle fleet is maintained with minimum downtime to enable the fleet to be operated in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible. The hours of work are 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday. That means taking responsibility for safety, ensuring legal compliance and delivering it all cost-effectively. As well as asset management, the team also oversees driver support and training and strives to ensure National Grid Electricity Distribution employees enjoy a service that enables them to work effectively and efficiently. Main Responsibilities Day to day management of own workload including liaising with customers. Routine maintenance of all vehicles, including heavy goods. Repairing and maintaining plant trailers and ancillary equipment. Arranging repairs and maintenance with contracted suppliers. Preparing and presenting vehicles for annual testing. Road testing and diagnosing vehicle faults. Ordering of parts as required for the maintenance and repair of the Transport fleet. The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be a qualified and time served Vehicle Technician and hold the appropriate NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent qualification. A full driving license is essential for this role and holding a valid LGV (Class C) driving licence would be advantageous but is not essential as training can be provided to the successful candidate. Alongside a good approach to customer service you will have the ability to work well by yourself as well as working within a team environment. You will be able to consistently maintain high quality standards and work within given timescales. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
