Lecturer in Occupational Therapy (North West)
In this role, you will be involved in supporting the delivery of our degree apprenticeship provision for the North West region. This involves hybrid working from home or in Sheffield and with travel to the North West (Manchester) region for face-to-face teaching, working on the Occupational Therapy course and inter-professional portfolio.
Main Duties of the Job
As a Lecturer, you will be able to inspire our students and make a valuable contribution to their learning experience, whilst preparing them for contemporary occupational therapy practice.
You must be an HCPC-registered occupational therapist and have well-developed and current knowledge and understanding of critical, practical, and theoretical issues relevant to contemporary practice.
Ideally, you will be at the forefront of new ways of working in the NHS, in either primary or secondary settings, demonstrating care innovation and emergent management pathways.
About Us
We have a team of lecturers to deliver our apprenticeship provision, and it would be envisaged that you would be part of this innovation, contributing to occupational therapy education in higher education whilst retaining strong links with employers and practice partners.
The Degree Apprenticeship programme is delivered in weekly blocks interspersed throughout the year encompassing hybrid delivery made up of 2 days on-site and 3 days online.
Our main base is at Sheffield Hallam University where hybrid working is our normal practice (online or on-campus). Your role will involve face-to-face delivery in the North West (approximately 2-4 days per month).
The role also requires you to contribute to our pre-registration apprenticeship course through teaching, assessing, academic advising, and academic citizenship.
The ability to inspire, enthuse, and connect with a range of backgrounds is required. You will support students' academic and placement learning progression and work collaboratively to enhance the student experience.
Job Responsibilities
Main duties include:
1. Designing and delivering innovative, high-quality, and challenging learning experiences.
2. Equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and attributes required by employers through the delivery of the curriculum.
3. Contributing to the development of a sense of student community and acting as a key contact for students.
4. Assisting with the operational delivery of courses/modules and proactively addressing any emerging issues.
5. Actively participating in student induction (where appropriate).
6. Playing an active role in the pastoral care and supervision of students.
7. Planning and delivering the curriculum using appropriate media, including the use of IT.
8. Engaging in critical reflection on practice as a basis for improving performance.
9. Providing effective feedback, support, and guidance to students.
10. Supervising individual and group-based student activities, e.g., dissertations, industrial placements, work-based projects.
11. Identifying and conducting research and scholarly activity relevant to the lecturing role.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good occupational therapy honours degree (i.e., UK 2.1 or 1st Class) or equivalent professional qualification.
* HCPC Registration.
* Postgraduate teaching qualification (PG Cert or HEA fellowship) or a commitment to complete PG Cert Teaching in Higher Education.
* Evidence of post-registration professional development in occupational therapy at MSc level.
Experience
* Teaching, training, and supervising students and peers.
* Well-developed current understanding of practical and theoretical issues in contemporary occupational therapy practice.
* Experience in a range of clinical environments and occupational therapy roles with evidence of highly developed specialised knowledge in at least one of these areas.
* Knowledge of current developments within the profession, NHS care, HEE, and Higher Education.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent team working skills and the ability to establish good working relationships.
* Willingness to work flexibly, including some weekends and evenings.
* Willingness to travel in the UK or abroad (occasional).
