In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact on the safety and well-being of our site workforce. You’ll mentor and support a team of Safety Technicians, helping them grow professionally while overseeing key programs like Fire Prevention and Emergency Response. You’ll provide hands-on training to ensure the team is prepared for any situation. Responsibilities include:
1. Supervise, direct, oversee and support work activities for Safety Technicians
2. Support, mentor and coach Safety Technicians in their professional development
3. Direct, organize, update and oversee work activities with regards to the Fire Prevention Program
4. Direct, organize, update and oversee work activities with regards to the Emergency Response Program
5. Fulfil the role of Incident Commander
6. Lead training for the Emergency Response Team
7. Have an active field presence to encourage worker participation in Safety Programs
8. Support Operational Leaders and Teams with respect to:
1. Conventional Safety, Industrial Hygiene and Process Safety
2. Priorities based on the hazard and risk registries
3. Hazard identification, risk communication and risk analysis
4. Authorization and permit to work systems
5. Workplace inspections, audits and observations
6. Non-conformance and incident investigation, classification, analysis and reporting
7. Change Management
8. Contractor Management
9. Assist in the maintenance of the Safety Management System by preparing and updating related documentation including procedures, work instructions and forms
10. Prepare and assist in the preparation of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
11. Assist in the maintenance and analysis of safety data to inform priorities utilizing leading and lagging indicators to drive continual improvement initiatives
12. Coordinate improvement initiatives or prevention strategies with front line leaders and key stakeholders
Skills and Qualifications for the position include:
1. Safety Certification or active pursuit of a certification is required (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, NEBOSH, etc.)
2. Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred
3. Post-secondary education in Emergency Response including emergency medical responder and fire fighting
4. 5 to 10 years of experience in an industrial or mining environment
5. Experience/training in the following areas is preferred:
1. Hazard analysis and risk assessment
2. Root cause analysis
3. Behavior based safety and human factors
4. Emergency Response
6. Familiarity with provincial and federal health and safety regulations
7. Knowledge of the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard and its implementation would be considered an asset
8. Demonstrated ability to teach and speak publicly to workers and leaders
9. Good written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
10. Excellent computer skills in database management systems and spreadsheets
11. Knowledge of statistical analysis
12. Past experience in the use of Synergie database is preferred
