Stakeholder relations are important enablers for our military activity across the Islands. This is a high profile job with regular direct liaison with Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands (Brigadier rank). The Commanders mission is to deter any military aggression against the South Atlantic Overseas Territories (Falkland Islands, South Georgian and South Sandwich Islands and Ascension island), to protect the Falkland Islanders right to self-determination and to reassure the local population. This post is part of the Command Secretariat, a small team of Civil Servants and locally employed civilians who deliver key roles in supporting business management, policy work and stakeholder engagement across the Command. The geographic location, political circumstances and broad community in the Falkland Islands make this an exceptional posting and provides an excellent opportunity to deliver outcomes in a challenging environment, supporting Defence and His Majestys Governments wider objectives. This key role supports the Command Secretary by managing relations with a wide variety of stakeholders from local landowners to the Falkland Islands Government, providing advice and guidance to military stakeholders across British Forces South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI). Tour length: 2-years, possible 1-year extension. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Job description Key responsibilities for the post holder include: Provide advice on stakeholder engagement matters to the Commander and the Command Group to ensure engagement best supports wider Defence and HM Government priorities enabling sound decision making by senior management. Maintain regular contact with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Falkland Islands Government and external agencies/ bodies in the Falkland Islands to ensure cohesion and integration for engagement activity. Build and maintain effective relationships with local landowners to enable successful patrols and exercises by military personnel, while developing targeted programmes of engagement activity to enhance and improve these relationships through a stakeholder matrix. Initial Point of Contact for engagement between the military and civilian population of the Falkland Islands, working with BFSAI stakeholders to develop responses to queries. Engage with community groups and organisations to promote BFSAI interests. Provide advice on local media engagement to the Media Officer, ensuring that messaging supports wider Defence and considers local issues and concerns. Interface between the HQ and Defence Infrastructure Organisation on land agreements in the Falkland Islands. Work with the resident Army units to plan and prepare activity including briefing all personnel on a range of issues surrounding interaction with the civilian population. Represent the Command at meetings/activities to support the delivery of Overseas Assistance in the event of an emergency. This includes the provision of wider policy, secretariat and operational support to the Command Secretariat team when required to support wider Headquarters priorities and objectives. Provide advice and support to MOD personnel on appropriate conduct, specific to the Falkland Islands which protect and preserve the Commands reputation. Person specification The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator with a clear communication style to seniors and colleagues of all ranks. You will have a proven track record of managing diverse stakeholders as you will need to be able to develop effective relationships with a large, diverse group of military and civilian stakeholders across Defence and the Falkland Islands community. Key to this role is the ability to listen to people and sift information to allow effective decisions to be made and accurate advice to be provided. The post demands high degrees of self-motivation and integrity, the successful applicant will be a resilient individual who can work efficiently and effectively in a remote work location. You should be prepared to be out and about across the Falkland Islands where conditions may not be as comfortable as in the UK. Flexibility and adaptability are important as some activity takes place outside normal working hours.
