MAP is looking to recruit experienced Project Archaeologists, Supervisors and Project Officers to join our team on sites which are predominately located in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (our office is in Malton), but we work on projects UK wide. For over 10 years MAP has provided job security for staff offering only permanent roles following successful probationary periods.

Project Archaeologists
You will have at least 6 months experience in UK commercial archaeology.
What we need from you:
* Be able to identify, appreciate and appropriately excavate archaeological features and structures in both rural and urban environments
* Be able to record those features and structures in a coherent and procedural fashion. Inclusive of photography, measured drawings, and context recording (we use Diggit as our digital context recording system)
* Appropriate collection and labelling of artefacts and samples
We like people who are enthusiastic, problem solvers, with a willingness to take on level appropriate challenges. You should be fit and capable of undertaking physical work, with a courteous and professional manner. A good understanding of site narratives and formation processes is essential. Although the role is predominantly site based, you may be required to undertake post-excavation tasks as necessary.
Supervisors
You will have at least 3 months supervisory experience in UK commercial archaeology and have experience of:
* Conducting relevant work on small sites, inclusive of watching briefs (with associated post-excavation tasks)
* Supporting Project Officers on large sites
* Mentoring and managing of PAs and Apprentices
* Machine watching and guiding to find appropriate archaeological levels
* Appropriate and effective communication with clients, curators, and contractors
* Computer literacy (Microsoft Office etc)
* Site setting-out and surveying (we use Trimble, guidance provided)
* Effective time management and budgeting
Similar to the PA role you should possess the ability to work in the field and be enthusiastic about the subject. You should be able to take an overview of the site, appreciate the wider scope of works and be supportive of both POs (in the running sites) and PAs/Apprentices with their work. Support and advice from the Management Team will be there when running smaller sites and watching briefs.
Project Officers
You will have at least 12 months supervisory experience in UK commercial archaeology. You will have experience of:
* Managing the day to day working of a site, with effective reporting to the Management Team
* Machine watching and guiding to find appropriate archaeological levels
* Appropriate and effective communication with clients, curators, and contractors
* Computer literacy (Microsoft Office etc)
* Report writing (inc. assessment reports, DBA’s etc, examples may be requested if possible)
* Production of site specific WSI’s & RAMS
* Site setting-out and surveying (we use Trimble, guidance provided)
* Effective time management and budgeting
You should possess all the skills and abilities outlined with the PA and Supervisor roles. Be able to support all levels of field staff in their work and provide clear and engaging advice regarding archaeological methods, principles, and practices. Support will be there for complex matters, but you should be constructive in your queries.
All candidates must have the following:
* A good understanding/appreciation of the nature of commercial archaeology in the UK
* Good knowledge and understanding of British archaeology of all periods
* Awareness of the finite archaeological resource and ability to curate and store any archive materials safely
* Appropriate working knowledge of recognised archaeological practices
* Be engaged with the archaeology at hand and an appreciation of working environment
* A commitment to working ethically within an industry wide Code of Conduct
* The ability to work to deadlines
* Be able to aptly work independently or within a team
* Appreciation that the role will involve away work (weeks’ notice minimum)
* Clean driving licence with experience of driving small/medium vans (desirable for Project Archaeologists)
* Effective and constructive communication skills
* SSSTS or similar level of health and safety accreditation (Supervisor and PO level only)
Desirable:
* Relevant archaeological qualification
* CIfA membership
* Cat and Genny awareness (training provided following probation period)
* First Aid (training provided following probation period)
* CAD and/or QGIS skills
* Presentation skills
