Working Hours: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

Location: On site and office, some scope (tbc) for hybrid working, but needs to be Bristol or local based.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the City Council’s Natural and Marine Environment Team in a lead Health and Safety role that delivers some of Bristol’s most high-profile services, including:
1. Cemeteries and Crematoria
2. Marine Harbour Operations
3. Docks Engineering
4. Formal Parks
5. Play areas
6. Nature reserves
7. Sports facilities
8. Leisure and catering facilities
9. Retail Plant Nursery
Alongside significant and varied day-to-day operations to deliver these services, you will undertake major and specialist projects, and planned programmes to maintain and improve the quality and safety of the Natural and Marine Environment.
The successful applicant will work with numerous stakeholders to ensure a safe environment for service users, staff, contractors, and residents. This is a rare opportunity to play a leading role and be part of a very dedicated team in some of the most important and visible services the Council offers to Bristol residents and visitors. We require someone who is motivated and passionate about addressing health, safety, and wellbeing issues and is not daunted by working in a dynamic and developing service.
Qualifications:
* Professionally Qualified – Graduate status with the IOSH.
* Membership of Association for Project Safety.
Knowledge:
* Working knowledge of operational H&S Legislation.
Experience:
* Demonstrable experience in a health and safety environment.
* Ideally with experience in Marine, operational engineering, and parks operation delivery.
* Experience of undertaking audits and/or inspections of operational activities, contractors, and workplaces to verify compliance with legislative requirements.
* Risk management methodology, calculation, and reporting experience.
* Experience in devising and delivering a health, safety, and wellbeing compliance programme.
Skills & Abilities:
* Able to challenge staff and contractors’ performance to ensure they meet expectations and high safety standards.
