We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for Registered Paramedics to join our Emergency Department
As a Registered Paramedic you will work within the multi-disciplinary team in the Emergency Department. Working within a defined scope of practice you will work in a range of areas, including but not limited to Ambulance Assessment, Streaming, Initial Assessment (FIT) and Resuscitation. You will take clinical accountability for a group of patients assigned to you, working collaboratively with medical and nursing staff within your area. You will undertake clinical assessments, diagnostics and provide prescribed clinical care within your Paramedic skill set. You will share your Paramedic expertise with the wider team and lead/support junior staff. You will lead specific areas of the department upon request and delegate aspects of care to other Healthcare Professionals and Senior Healthcare Assistants and to consistently uphold high standards and quality of emergency care.
About you:
* A HCPC Registered Paramedic with emergency care experience in relevant settings
* You must have completed the National Newly Qualified Paramedic (NQP) Programme and have a portfolio and completion certificate
* Have a FdSc/DipHE or BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science (If you are a IHCD Paramedic you must hold a FdSc/Dip HE and/or BSc/BSc (Hons) [or above] in post studies)
* Confident to care for a group of patients with emergency care needs
Main duties of the job
* Work within designated areas of the emergency department including but not limited to Ambulance Assessment, Streaming, Initial Assessment (FIT) and Resuscitation
* To provide leadership within designated area
* To undertake clinical assessments according to emergency presentations
* To complete risk assessment to inform care
* To deliver and evaluate emergency care interventions
* To administer medication safely via various routes and in accordance with a prescription
* To undertake diagnostics within scope of practice
* To undertake venepuncture, cannulation and arterial blood gases (once competent)
* To accurately document care provided
* To recognise deterioration and escalate concerns to medical/nursing colleagues
* To work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team
* To implement treatment and discharge plans with patients and their families
* To role model the Trust values
* To support resuscitation of patients upon request
* To act as a clinical escort for inter facility transfers, upon request
* To deliver personal and holistic care promoting comfort, pressure area care and continence
* To share Paramedic expertise within team
* To support junior staff, student/learners and apprentices within the Emergency Department
* To delegate aspects of care to Senior Healthcare Assistants
