Year 2 Teaching Assistant for ASD Support - January 2025
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Year 2 Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant school community in Nelson (BB9) starting in January 2025. This role will involve providing tailored support to a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the classroom, ensuring they can access the curriculum and thrive in their learning environment. You will work closely with the class teacher to deliver engaging lessons while ensuring that the child receives appropriate accommodations and interventions to support their learning.
In this role, you will provide one-on-one support for the child with ASD, helping them develop academically, socially, and emotionally. You will also assist the class teacher in creating an inclusive and supportive environment, encouraging the child to develop social skills, communication, and independent learning strategies. You will work collaboratively with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff to monitor and track the child's progress and provide feedback to parents and the school team.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children with ASD or other special educational needs, ideally within a school setting. You should be patient, empathetic, and able to build strong, trusting relationships with children. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential, and a proactive, flexible approach to supporting children's needs is key. While relevant qualifications in education or SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) would be beneficial, they are not essential for this role.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive, friendly team who are committed to ensuring the success of every child. We offer a positive school environment where inclusion and respect are at the heart of everything we do, along with continuous professional development and the potential for a permanent contract based on performance.
The contract will start in January 2025 as a temporary role with a view to becoming permanent. It is a full-time, term-time only position.
