Job Introduction
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to ensure the smooth operation of Financial controls, accounting and reporting processes across BBC Finance. The successful candidate will have the required technical accounting skills and expertise to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with financial reporting standards and our internal controls framework, to a wide range of stakeholders.
The Senior Accountant will support the Financial Controller in overseeing the financial position of the division they support (e.g. News). As such, the Senior Accountant needs to have a strong technical understanding of finance and accounting principles.
They will oversee the division's day-to-day financial operations and secure the integrity of accounting data. Ensure ledgers are accurate, financial statements are prepared on time, and internal controls are maintained.
Main Responsibilities
* The Senior Accountant role works within the Finance Operations team and is critical in ensuring a robust accounting close process across both month and year-end.
* Working closely with wider finance and business colleagues to deliver and report accurate numbers to stakeholders whilst ensuring that internal Finance controls, including accounting principles and standards, are adhered to and applied on a consistent basis.
* Ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly and concisely to non-finance stakeholders.
* You will manage the liaison with external stakeholders where required including our outsource provider and appointed external auditors.
* You are expected to provide sound technical and expert financial/accounting advice to support insightful and informed business decision making, including impact assessment.
* The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the delivery of outputs required in connection with internal controls and financial reporting requirements.
Are you the right candidate?
* You will be a fully qualified accountant with a sound understanding of financial controls and corporate governance.
* You will also be accustomed to, and confident in, liaising with senior finance and non-finance stakeholders with a service delivery focus.
* Experience of coaching and mentoring others in a finance function.
* An excellent understanding of financial reporting is essential, and you will combine strong technical knowledge with a proven track record of process improvement.
* You will have experience of working as part of a team and planning work to ensure delivery to tight deadlines.
* Experience of supporting the delivery of effective financial systems and controls is essential.
* Inquisitive mindset coupled with the ability to investigate and resolve challenging/complex problems.
