Adelphi Real World - Associate Director of Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Real-World Evidence

Adelphi Real World is a global consultancy in healthcare. We collect and interrogate real world data to aid the pharmaceutical industry in understanding the management and treatment of specific diseases. This understanding informs the successful development of pipeline assets and the positioning of products in market. Real world data can also be used to leverage Health Outcomes / Economic argumentation through statistically validated publications.
The Role
Leading the analytical support across all secondary data studies and leading the study teams using secondary data sources worldwide to meet clients' needs. You will work collaboratively with an enthusiastic and friendly team, leading various research projects from conception and study design through to reporting and publication.
Accountabilities:
Implementation and leadership of the research process:
1. Key client contact, final decision maker and final responsibility for quality of delivery of a study throughout its lifespan.
2. Providing guidance and leading through all stages in conjunction with other multi-disciplinary team members - external agencies/ partners, data holders, key opinion leaders etc.
Drive methodological expertise within the team:
1. Advising study teams and clients on the suitability of proposed methods to address the research questions and recommending optimal approaches.
2. Critically reviewing and providing feedback on study protocols (e.g. study design and statistical methods) for review by clients and other review committees.
3. Critically reviewing and providing feedback of a robust, transparent and coherent Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs), incorporating comprehensive operational definitions and/or code lists, statistical methods, objective-specific analyses and table shells, for implementation by others with limited scope for interpretation.
4. Critically reviewing and providing feedback on study findings, and supporting project teams in the interpretation of analyses, particularly complex statistical methods.
5. Translate client evidence needs into tangible analytical approaches and study design options.
6. As a biostatistics and methods lead within the team, contribute innovative epidemiological and statistical methods for addressing client evidence needs.
Analysis and reporting of results:
1. Supporting the interpretation and completion of the final research report and the presentation of the study results.
2. Authorship of publications, including development and/or critical review of abstracts/posters for presentation at scientific congresses or manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
Development of a team and co-ordination of resources:
1. Encourage and empower team members (both statistical programmers [SPs] and non-SPs) to learn and develop new skills in epidemiology and biostatistics.
2. Motivating individuals within the SP team i.e. play an active role in developing an environment of continued learning.
3. Seek new training opportunities to develop team members on the analysis of secondary data.
4. Inform the development of, and provide final sign-off for, training and development materials.
5. Demonstrate agility and flexibility to support teams and clients in the face of competing priorities.
6. Significant contribution on future outlook i.e. resourcing requirements and subsequent liaison with senior leadership team.
7. Line Management responsibilities.
New Business Development / Proposal writing:
1. Responsible for leading development of proposals, as well advising methods to include in proposals being developed by the broader team.
2. Maintain positive and productive client relationships.
The person:
1. MSc or PhD in Statistics OR MSc or PhD in Biostatistics (Medical Statistics) OR a relevant higher degree (e.g., Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Data Science) with experience of working as an applied medical statistician.
2. Advanced programming knowledge in at least one and proficient in a second: STATA, R, Python, SPSS.
3. Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences, including the ability to present statistical methods and results of statistical analyses through written and oral presentations.
4. Advanced statistical methods knowledge.
5. Experience of analysing/leading the analysis of longitudinal data and large data sets in the context of a research study.
6. Experience of analysing/leading the analysis of electronic health records (such as the Clinical Practice Research Datalink [CPRD]) is desirable.
7. A high level of interpersonal skills, ability to work well on own initiative and collaboratively on projects as part of a wider team.
8. Experience of managing a large project team.
9. Highly motivated with a proactive approach to work.
10. A passion for innovation, and implementing new ideas.
11. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
12. Good organisational and time management skills.
13. A high level of numeracy, analytical, and interpretive skills.
14. Close attention to detail.
15. Proficient in basic Microsoft packages e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
16. Line management experience.
17. Manuscript preparation is desirable.
