The Opportunity
The Children & Families Support Manager leads the Child and Young People’s Support Team and Child and Family Support Workers Team. The Children & Families Support Manager leads Support Workers to deliver a range of services to children, young people, and their families, including those with complex disabilities. This role involves providing bespoke direct interventions, family time, and positive behaviour support, promoting the development and wellbeing of children and young people, and protecting them from neglect and abuse.
The manager will possess a deep understanding of the impact of disability upon families and how to support effective positive behaviour support. Working together with partners, schools, and multi-disciplinary teams, the manager will deliver early help, family support, and effective social work interventions that build resilience, remove barriers, and enable children and young people to look forward to a brighter future.
Children & Families Support Managers provide expert supervision and coaching for a team of Support Workers, achieving positive change for children, young people, and families (0-25 years). They lead the team and oversee duty services, offering consultation, advice, and guidance regarding the creation of child-focused family time plans. Managers will have continued oversight of these plans, ensuring they meet the needs of children and addressing them when they do not.
With proven ability to focus on results, develop innovative solutions, and build strong working relationships with colleagues, partners, schools, and multi-disciplinary teams, the role involves providing leadership and support across a team of support staff, enabling the development of individuals within the team. Key responsibilities include using expertise and professional knowledge to provide guidance on complex cases and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services with positive outcomes.
Accountabilities
1. To manage allocation of all referrals, incoming work, and tasks to staff individually and to be responsible for the ongoing monitoring of workload and closure of cases.
2. To manage all recruitment and induction processes for new staff, identify and oversee training needs for staff and liaise with ESCA regarding any specific identified training needs.
3. To undertake all regular and planned supervision to review personal and professional development of staff, as well as provide reflective case supervision and complete staff annual performance capabilities.
4. To provide management oversight on outcomes of interventions, support plans, and reports such as child protection conference reports.
5. To establish, develop and maintain productive working relationships with other relevant agencies and organisations, and to work in a multi-disciplinary way to achieve best outcomes for families.

7. To actively participate in wider strategic developments by attending relevant meetings with partners in health, learning disability services and commissioning.
8. To manage and oversee, quality assurance of services provided. To manage and respond to complaints or compliments received and implement any learning from these.
9. To use data information systems (PowerBi) to monitor specific data and use this to inform any service planning and/or team plans, such as efficient throughput of work. To use data to inform performance reports.
10. To ensure all staff understand and follow SET procedures and any concerns are highlighted and recorded correctly, following ECC policies and guidance.
11. Continue to expand and develop the service as required to ensure continued delivery of high-quality services. To provide consistent advice, guidance, support, and consultation to colleagues across all relevant services, including other frontline teams.
12. Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
The Experience You Will Bring
13. A recognised social work qualification. Diploma, degree or masters in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent, with current registration with Social Work England as a registered social worker.
14. Evidence of continuing professional development
15. Management qualification and experience of managing staff in a supervisory role.
16. Specialist knowledge of disability and its impact on families, trauma, challenging behaviour, and positive behaviour support management.
17. Knowledge of Children Act 1989 and 2004, the Care Act 2014 and other legislative and policy guidance applicable within Childrens Social Care, including SET procedures.
18. Ability to lead team meetings and contribute to other relevant professional meetings.
19. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in partnership with other agencies and professionals to maximise outcomes for disabled children and their families.
20. Developing strong relationships with partners, other agencies and the local community to achieve joint objectives and offer a supportive framework for children, young people and families.
21. Proven track record of clear decision making in order to highlight and limit the potential risks associated with intervention.
22. Ability to complete written reports to a good standard.
