As part of the council's Parks & Countryside service, the Trees and Woodlands team is dedicated to managing and enhancing this wonderful resource now and for generations to come.
As a Community Tree Officer, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the city’s trees and woodlands in line with the council's Trees and Woodlands Strategy. This will include carrying out inspections, dealing with enquiries, and providing arboricultural advice to other departments, elected members, and the public.
We are looking for someone who can:
1. Competently undertake tree inspections, risk assessments, and surveys.
2. Diagnose potential hazards within trees through a thorough knowledge and experience of ‘Visual Tree Assessment’ and tree-related pests and diseases.
3. Develop, manage, and monitor contracts for tree work.
4. Show a thorough knowledge and experience of health and safety issues and legislation.
5. Help co-ordinate emergency tree work as and when required.
6. Deal with enquiries, complaints, subsidence damage, and other insurance-related claims.
7. Seek out and secure new funding opportunities.
8. Promote the value of trees and woodlands as well as the wider tree management practices of the Trees & Woodlands team.
9. Keep up to date with the latest research, industry guidance, and government policy and integrate this into your day-to-day work.
10. Work some evenings and weekends.
We are looking for candidates who are qualified to National Certificate level in Arboriculture or a higher level in forestry or another appropriate discipline followed by a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
