Working in the NHS Cancer Programme, you will help set the agenda for cancer care in England. Our goal is to diagnose cancer earlier, help more people survive it, and improve their quality of life and experience of care. We work with people affected by cancer, clinicians, charities, Regions, Cancer Alliances, and trusts, and develop national policy and strategy to transform services for people across the country.

Main duties of the job
As a Project Manager for the Policy and Strategy team, you will work as part of an exciting, cross-cutting team within the NHS Cancer Programme. The Policy and Strategy team sets the overall direction for cancer strategy and policy across NHS England. We have a broad remit for strategic policy development and implementing key strategic projects to support our ambitions on improved outcomes, from activities to support workforce and capacity to developing and testing new interventions to help find more cancers at an early stage within primary care.
The postholder will play a key role in delivery of strategic policy projects across the Policy and Strategy team, supporting policy development and working with colleagues across the NHS, including Cancer Alliances, on a range of initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for people with cancer.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Job responsibilities
Primary responsibilities:
* Shaping and managing cancer policy projects to support policy development across the organisation ensuring alignment with the wider corporate strategy.
* Working collaboratively with key cancer stakeholders to develop cancer policy to meet the needs of the organisation and all of its stakeholders
* Develop and communicate cancer policy developments with others to enable the operational detail to be worked up.
* Supporting Parliamentary and ministerial accountability through cancer expertise and briefing skills
* Contribute to corporate governance by managing returns and highlight reports on project/programme governance and effective business planning.
Candidates will bring the following expertise:
* Experience of providing project management and comprehensive secretariat support across a complex programme such as cancer
* Experience in communications and cancer stakeholder management, including drafting and preparation of correspondence, reports and briefing papers
* Ability to work effectively with a wide range of cancer stakeholders, including health professionals, senior managers, people affected by cancer, third sector organisations
* Works well with others, is positive and helpful, listens, involves, respects and learns from the contribution of others
* Consistently looks to improve what they do, looking for successful tried and tested ways of working, and also seeks out innovation
* An ability to work autonomously in a dynamic environment is essential, as you will be working in a rapidly changing context with multiple priorities

Qualifications
