We have a very exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic and knowledgeable team at The Living Rainforest, Berkshire, as an Educational Tour Guide.
The Living Rainforest is a vibrant education centre which provides learning opportunities and training as well as a friendly, sociable working atmosphere and flexible hours during term time and occasional school holidays.
The Tour Guide's role is to facilitate an educational tour to school groups within our tropical glasshouses, introducing them to various rainforest-related topics. We are looking for someone with a background in biological science or other scientific background to facilitate our Sustainable Future and Climate Change tour topics.
* Guiding groups of school children through our tropical glasshouses showcasing a replica rainforest (mainly years 1 - 8).
* Introducing the tour group to various rainforest-related topics and issues, following the current national curriculum.
* Advocating for sustainability and climate change by educating the tour group on key environmental topics.
* Learning and absorbing a wide range of information, including how plants and animals have adapted to living in the rainforest environment, climate change, threats to rainforest ecosystems, and sustainable development.
* Facilitating half-term and school holiday activities including public tours, crafts, and workshops.
Due to the nature of our business, this is a casual contract and you will be offered work weekly on an hourly basis. Hours will vary depending on the schools we have booked in on each day; however, we are unable to guarantee a set number of hours each week.
This is a great role that offers flexibility to an individual while working in an exciting environment home to over 850 species of plants and animals.
Requirements:
* Previous experience within an education environment e.g., teaching or guiding at other venues.
* A scientific background and knowledge of sustainability would be a key advantage in this role.
* Ability to absorb large amounts of information and think on your feet.
* Flexible and a team player.
* Must be willing for us to obtain an enhanced DBS check.

Rate of pay: £15.50 per tour (once trained) £11.44 per hour for training.
