Contract: Fixed-term (6-12 months, with potential for extension)
Working Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (including on-call duties)
Job Summary
The NHS Trust seeks an experienced and compassionate Locum Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics to join the paediatric team. This role involves providing high-quality clinical care across various paediatric settings, including inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and emergency departments. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance paediatric skills and gain exposure in a supportive NHS environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Duties:
o Provide general paediatric care for patients admitted to paediatric wards, outpatient clinics, and the paediatric emergency department.
o Conduct thorough patient assessments, diagnose, and develop management plans for a range of paediatric conditions.
o Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including paediatric consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals, to ensure comprehensive care.
o Support acute paediatric cases, providing stabilisation, resuscitation, and management of emergencies.
o Carry out neonatal care in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) or neonatal ward as needed.
2. On-Call and Emergency Services:
o Participate in the paediatric on-call rota, covering emergency cases, admissions, and consultations from other specialties.
o Provide clinical support for junior staff during on-call shifts and ensure quality patient care.
3. Clinical Supervision and Teaching:
o Supervise and mentor junior doctors, medical students, and paediatric nursing staff.
o Contribute to teaching sessions, case discussions, and departmental meetings, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices.
o Actively participate in the professional development of staff and contribute to a positive learning environment.
4. Administrative Duties:
o Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, ensuring compliance with NHS Trust policies and protocols.
o Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and department meetings.
o Engage in patient safety and clinical governance activities, promoting high standards of care and continuous improvement.
5. Research and Development (if applicable):
o Engage in clinical research activities, contributing to paediatric studies and evidence-based practice.
o Stay up-to-date with advancements in paediatrics, participating in relevant CPD activities to enhance clinical knowledge.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
* Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) recognized by the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice in the UK.
* Minimum 4 Years Postgraduate Experience: At least 2 years of experience in paediatrics in a hospital setting.
* Relevant Paediatrics Training: Completion of relevant paediatric training, including experience in general paediatrics, neonatology, and paediatric emergencies.
* Proficiency in Paediatric Life Support (PALS): Ability to manage acute paediatric cases, with a certification in PALS or equivalent.
* Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Able to engage with children and families in a compassionate manner and work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
* Legal Right to Work in the UK
Desirable Qualifications
* Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) or equivalent.
* Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) Certification: Experience and certification in neonatal life support, especially for those working in the neonatal unit.
* Specialized Skills in Paediatric Subspecialties: Experience in specific paediatric areas, such as paediatric cardiology, respiratory, or paediatric intensive care.
* Research and Publication Experience: Contribution to paediatric research, clinical audits, or publications.
* Commitment to Continued Professional Development (CPD): Regular participation in paediatric training, courses, and conferences.
