Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal (MSK) team within the inpatient setting at North Devon District Hospital. You will play a pivotal role in the multidisciplinary team, delivering specialized occupational therapy assessments and interventions to promote patient independence, facilitate recovery, and enhance quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct specialist occupational therapy assessments for orthopaedic and MSK inpatient populations, creating individualized rehabilitation plans focused on patient-centered outcomes.
2. Implement comprehensive interventions, including functional mobility training, ADL retraining, equipment prescription, and discharge planning.
3. Collaborate closely with surgeons, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals within the orthopaedics and MSK multidisciplinary teams.
4. Continuously evaluate patient progress, adjust care plans accordingly, and document outcomes effectively to comply with clinical governance.
5. Provide thorough education and practical advice to patients, families, and carers, supporting successful transitions from hospital to home or onward care settings.
6. Engage in regular multidisciplinary meetings, contributing expert occupational therapy insights to inform comprehensive patient management plans.
7. Maintain meticulous clinical records, adhering strictly to professional standards and hospital policies.
8. Participate proactively in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and service development within the orthopaedic and MSK inpatient services.
9. Commit to ongoing professional development, maintaining HCPC registration and compliance with relevant professional guidelines and protocols.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
1. Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.
2. Current HCPC registration.
3. Proven post-registration experience within orthopaedics and/or musculoskeletal inpatient settings.
4. Experience prescribing adaptive equipment and familiarity with inpatient rehabilitation processes.
5. Demonstrated ability to manage complex patient caseloads effectively.
