An exciting opportunity to join a growing team in a modern, stand-alone Children's Hospital by the sea in the South East of England.
A chance to join a close-knit, busy and vibrant team at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital, as an important addition to the endocrine and Diabetes team. This post will complement the existing 3 consultants and play a part in the service expansion, along with the planned addition of a CNS.
The aim is to establish a long-term sustainable Endocrine and Diabetes department, striving to meet full national standards of care for Endocrine in the near future, and continuing to achieve BPT for Diabetes and meeting all 7 care processes for NPDA yearly.
Main duties of the job
The start date of the post is as soon as possible within notice periods.
The post holder will:
* Provide general paediatric endocrinology and diabetes services to the RACH/UHS NHS Foundation Trust.
* Participate in clinical and other service activities to ensure a high standard of patient care.
* Take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
* Contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development.
* Be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice.
* Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties of the post.
* Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
* Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

Job responsibilities

This post will complement the existing 3 consultants and play a part in the service expansion, along with the planned addition of a CNS.
The Department of Paediatric Endocrine and Diabetes is seeking a Consultant to join their dynamic, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking endocrine and diabetes team.
The team currently consists of Dr Dunia Ismail (Clinical Lead for Endocrinology & Diabetes), Dr Shankar Kanumakala (Endocrinology and Diabetes), and Dr Claire Snowden (General Paediatrics and Diabetes), along with a multidisciplinary Diabetes team made up of 3WTE CNS, 2WTE Dietician, and 1WTE coordinator.
These posts will contribute to the consultant-led care provided in the Children's outpatient and inpatient department for endocrinology and diabetes.
There is an OOH rota for Diabetes currently at 1:5, which would become a 1:6 with consultants and CNS team, and the consultants are always backup when a CNS is on call.
The aim is to establish a long-term sustainable Endocrine and Diabetes department, striving to meet full national standards of care for Endocrine in the near future, and continuing to achieve BPT for Diabetes and meeting all 7 care processes for NPDA yearly.
The department is committed to ensuring all consultants are treated equally and fairly.
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions, and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
Person Specification
Experience/Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
* CCT in Paediatrics or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC.
* Valid BLS Training.
* Note - If you are applying via the Portfolio Pathway (previously known as CESR) you MUST be on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of application.
* Higher Degree.
* Teaching qualification.
Clinical Skills & Experience
* Experience in the management of common paediatric conditions.
* Experience in the management of common endocrine conditions.
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty.
Organisation & Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams.
* Understanding of NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints.
* Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended.
Teaching Skills
* Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching.
* Recognised teaching qualification.
