We are seeking a technically able and commercially aware Solicitor/FCILEx to join our Employment Law Group, part of the Civil Litigation Division. The caseload would include complex and high value Respondent and Claimant Employment Tribunal matters across the full range of work types including discrimination and TUPE. The work sources include LEI and private instruction. There will also be some non-contentious HR support and advice work required. The work is challenging but rewarding and the team places a high value on mutual support and co-operation. Hybrid working: This role would be based in either our Bristol or Leeds office, with a combination of home and office working (typically working 2 days in the Bristol or Leeds city centre office and 3 days from home). There is the potential to agree fully remote working, with the requirement only to attend our offices occasionally. You would therefore need the infrastructure in place to work from home and will be provided with a company laptop. The Role Reporting to the partner in charge of the Employment Law Group the primary focus of the role is twofold: Management of a personal caseload of up to 40 varied, complex and often high value cases, including responsibility for day-to-day client relationships; and Proactive management and supervision of own team, comprising up to four case handlers or two supervisors with varying caseloads and experience. The Team The employment law team consists of solicitors, paralegals, and trainee solicitors, based at our Leeds and Bristol offices, with some fully remote working. We deal with Employment Tribunal claims acting for employees and employers. We also advise a number of employers on employment-related matters including disciplinaries, grievances, restructures, and business transfers. Our solicitors are regularly instructed to advise on settlement agreements. What we’re looking for: Essential: A passion for employment law and for providing commercial and practical solutions; Excellent communication and time management skills; Ability to deal flexibly with a wide range of work types, work sources and clients; Ability to take full responsibility for cases and strategy (subject to supervisory and group support); Considerable experience of running Employment Tribunal cases; Experience of supervision of Employment Tribunal cases and employment disputes; Ability to work to insurer SLAs and Tribunal or client deadlines; Setting an example to the team and motivating and inspiring high levels of performance; and Collaborative approach to supervision, training, and development of team. Desirable: Experience in business development; Experience of a wide range of litigation work sources and funding arrangements as well as a good mix of acting for respondents and claimants; Experience of team working; and Experience of dealing with insurance funded clients.
