Due to a combination of Internal Promotion and Retirement we have an exciting opportunity for a Continental Shift based Production Shift Manager at our 24/7 manufacturing site at Spondon, Derby. Health and Safety is at the forefront of everything we do; the role will require the individual to own and take personal accountability for ensuring a safe working environment and the proactive safety culture of their production team. As Production Shift Manager you will be responsible for leading a team of manufacturing and plant operatives in a film manufacturing environment that runs alongside a heavy chemical process plant. This involves operation of continuous film production lines, film converting and packing high quality products, packaged and prepared for delivery in accordance with customer service requirements. The role requires an individual to have overall site knowledge; robust knowledge of the escalation process and the reporting processes in order to take on the mantle of Site Deputy Manager out of hours. A key aspect of this role is to develop a more empowered team in line with the company’s Moving to the Core Ethos, by training, coaching and development of individuals through strong leadership. The successful applicant, reporting directly into the Operations Manager, should have previous experience leading production teams in a KPI Driven heavy chemical plant manufacturing environment and have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate others and demonstrate strong team working. They must be a self-starter and able to work in an often pressurized environment; managing multiple activities on site at once and be flexible to respond to changing priorities. Delivery of Sites KPI’s; S tewardship Q uality R eliability and E ngagement. Ensure adherence to internal Safety Standards; accidents, near misses and failures are reported appropriately for investigation. Develop proactive safety culture within their team and promote Hazard Card system. Ensure adherence to internal Quality standards and Manage Quality Systems. Delivery to the planned Production Schedule; effectively communicating and dealing with issues that may affect scheduled output. Short and mid-term resource planning taking into account: resource need per production schedule, absenteeism. Ensure that the Production Teams execute work and prepare effective handover from shift to shift. Ensure teams maintain all GMP / GHK standards. Ensure all SOPs are followed and, if not, corrective actions are identified and action taken; issues around non-conformance to be escalated as appropriate. Coach and Mentor Team Members in the sites Moving to the Core Strategy in order to drive accountability and ownership. Ensure sufficient flexibility both within work teams and between groups by identifying training issues with team members and taking the subsequent steps to ensure the training is enacted. Complete performance reviews in line with 1-2-1 process for Operations employees. Responding to plant outages and emergencies which may involve flexibility in working hours. Identify manufacturing improvement opportunities in line with KPI’s – SQRE and lead their team to implement solutions with support from the wider management team. Ensure a robust communication plan is put in place in own area to include team briefings and communication of key messages is carried out in the most appropriate way for the message. Ensure a robust, fair and consistent reward and recognition scheme is in place in own area and successes are celebrated and communicated in the most appropriate way. Personal Attributes, Experience & Qualifications Required: Health and Safety Qualification i.e. IOSH / NEBOSH would be advantageous. Previous Experience Leading teams of operators in a manufacturing environment essential Background in Film Manufacturing and/or film converting machinery would be advantageous Background in a Chemical Manufacturing Environment with working knowledge Hazardous Areas essential. Excellent communication and IT skills Excellent attitude; a self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision. Must have good leadership qualities, be able to motivate others and demonstrate strong team working. Good Working understanding of Lean Manufacturing Practices would be extremely advantageous.
