Therapeutic Education Practitioner

This specialist school based in Barking is looking for a Therapeutic Education Practitioner with experience working with challenging children and young people. This is a specialist PRU school that caters for young people who have been excluded or are at risk of being excluded from a mainstream school.
Summary of Role:
Therapeutic Education Practitioners will have the opportunity to work in this SEMH school with an international reputation in special education expertise, curriculum, and resources. Experience of working with hard-to-reach young people with SEMH/ACE's/ASD/Sensory and communication difficulties is required.
We are looking for candidates who are 'Trauma informed' with a mentoring/coaching/teaching background and an understanding of Therapeutic Education. Candidates must have the ability to build strong, meaningful, and healthy relationships, maintain professional boundaries, be resilient, solution-focused, and reflective in their practice.
Full-time (temporary long-term) positions from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (Mon-Fri).
The role will entail:
1. Working 1:1 with students in the community who are accessing one of the Curriculum Pathways (Engagement, Vocational, Academic).
2. Flexibility to travel to the hub at times with their students and travel around London to work with different students within their cluster groups.
3. Attending the Therapy and Life Skills Hub in Barking every Friday for CPD/meeting/resources.
Travel expenses (during working hours) and lunch with students will be reimbursed.
Skills:
1. Experience working with mental health problems and complex SEN needs.
2. Excellent behaviour management skills.
3. Ability to build positive relationships with young people and staff.
4. Experience teaching/covering a range of lessons when needed.
5. Good knowledge/experience working with children with SEMH within a special needs environment.
6. Experience working with secondary-aged pupils.
7. Collaborating with the classroom teacher to define appropriate activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum.
8. Assessing children who have long or short-term learning difficulties and working with colleagues to identify individual pupils' special needs.
9. Liaising with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists.
This is a full-time/long-term position that will lead to permanent if successful.
