An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified, HCPC registered Occupational Therapist with Amputee Rehabilitation experience or who would like to gain experience within this specialist field, to work within the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality assessments and treatments for this client group.
Main duties of the job
The job role is to provide Occupational Therapy, alongside Band 7 Occupational Therapists. To participate in the inter-disciplinary assessment process, negotiated client-centred goals, rehabilitation interventions and completion of reviews and outcome measures. To be responsible for managing a caseload of amputee patients, both non-limb wearers and prosthetic users, with lower limb and upper limb amputations or limb difference. To communicate and liaise with a wide variety of community services regionally, including relevant referrals, ordering equipment and appropriate home visits.
Working for our organisation
We are looking for someone to provide Occupational Therapy as part of the wider MDT, including Rehabilitation Consultant, physiotherapy, prosthetists, counselling, psychology and therapy assistants. The service is based at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre in Birmingham, which provides specialist amputee rehabilitation throughout the whole West Midlands Region.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will need to have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience with some experience of assessing complex disability. You must have good organisational skills including prioritisation of workload and time management skills and be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of up to date clinical and evidence-based practice. You must be able to communicate effectively with patients/carers, colleagues and other agencies and to have excellent record keeping skills. As part of the MDT you will be contributing to promoting service development.

Qualifications:
* Graduate Bachelor of science degree (BSc) in Occupational Therapy
* Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
* Evidence of relevant CPD
* Active Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and the British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT)
* Active Member of clinical interest group
* Experience of Occupational Therapy and patient rehabilitation
* Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy within the prosthetic and amputee rehabilitation team
Skills & Knowledge:
* Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy within the prosthetic and amputee rehabilitation team
* Knowledge of community support agencies and liaison skills
* Competent in prioritisation of workload and time management skills
* Ability to manually handle patients and/or equipment safely to enable safe and effective clinical assessments and treatments
* Knowledge of the principles of prosthetic prescription
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance, standard setting and the audit process
Personal Qualities
* Ability to demonstrate initiative and motivation when working in a variety of situations
* Ability to demonstrate flexibility within the changing NHS environment
* Independently mobile as travel across the region is required to various work locations e.g. for meetings, home visits
