The successful candidate will work with FARE Scotland to promote the development and delivery of a range of personal and social development opportunities to children and young people. These opportunities will take place in a range of settings and will involve the apprentice supporting the delivery of a comprehensive support services that includes, but is not limited to, 1-to-1 support sessions, issue-based group work activities, employability courses and qualifications. \n\nThe apprentice will primarily work alongside the FARE Scotland Employability Team however they will also support the wider Community Support & Development team when required. Their work will support FARE Scotland to achieve a key organisational objective of increasing the accessibility to services that meet the needs of the community with whom we serve. The successful candidate will also be required to work in line with FARE Scotland's policies and procedures at all times and, whilst doing so, support and encourage the children and young people they are working with to overcome any barriers such as poverty and social isolation, in order to reach their full potential. The successful candidate will develop a range of key skills and knowledge throughout their apprenticeship. The apprentice will participate in the development of their own core skills throughout the duration of their employment. Literacy, numeracy, problem solving, working with others and Information Communication Technology will play a key role in their ability to successful engage with the children and young people whom they will be supporting on a daily basis. \n\nThe apprentice will also develop a range of Meta Skills over the course of their employment. Over the duration of the apprentice's employment, colleagues will look to support the apprentice to develop other skills such as being able to use their initiative and to adapt services when it is required to ensure FARE Scotland continue to support the individuals and groups who they are working with, to the best of our ability. Other skills such as critical thinking and sense-making will also be developed over time as the apprentice supports colleagues and the organisation as a whole to undertake activities such as evaluations, consultations and service reviews. \n\nThe successful candidate will also undertake an SVQ Social Services (Children & Young People) SCQF Lv7 and, if required, Core Skills Lv5 in Numeracy and ICT. Other training and development opportunities within our organisation are also available to support the apprentice to develop the required performance, knowledge and understanding required to be a competent and successful Young Person's Support Worker. FARE Scotland endeavour to continue providing accessible employment opportunities that are open to all in the community. As such, we do not have any minimum requirements for the role however we do ask candidates to have good communication skills, be willing to try new things and to be motivated in supporting their colleagues to the best of their ability. We also require the apprentice to be positive in their approach to tackling challenges, be flexible in support of service provision across a range of engagement activities and be willing to motivate others to overcome challenges or barriers that they face in their lives. \n\nKnowledge, understanding or experience of issues and barriers that children, young people and families face in communities would be beneficial. Experience of attending youth or community activities would also be advantageous however this is not essential. The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) application in order to undertake the role.
