A whole-time post for Consultant Paediatric Oncologist/Haematologist with expertise in Haemato- Oncology is available now at the John Radcliffe Hospital/Children’s Hospital of Oxford.

The postholder will work alongside the current three paediatric oncologists and three paediatric haematologists.

The Children’s Hospital Oxford (CHOX) at the John Radcliffe Hospital (JRH) Campus is the Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) providing tertiary haematology/oncology services for designated Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units (POSCUs) in Swindon, Reading, Milton Keynes, High Wycombe/Stoke Mandeville and Slough (Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital). The unit has excellentrelationships with paediatriciansinthePOSCUs.Outreachclinics forPaediatricOncology and Haematology are held at each of the POSCUs.
Inpatient facilities are based on Kamran’s Ward at the Children’s Hospital Oxford. This dedicated9-bedded ward provides care for patients requiring chemotherapy or for the management of treatment- or disease-related complications. Other wards within the hospital are used to accommodate outliers when required. All surgical, laboratory and radiological services are co- locatedintheJRHsite.AllPaediatricHaematologyandPaediatric Oncologyservicesarebasedat the JRH, with integrated oncology and surgical services. Radiotherapy is based at the Churchill Hospital; 1.5 miles from the JR.
There are approximately 115 new referrals per year of children with malignant disease. Thenumber of referrals has been increasing year on year.

Clinical:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of patients with haemato oncological malignancies aged 0 – 19 years and also manage non malignant haematology patients and haemoglobinopathy patients (2PA). The post holder will participate in the 1 in 6 “consultant of the week” system, providing cross cover for in-patient activity, dealing with new referrals, initial diagnostic work-up, planning and delivery of treatment and care.
The post-holder will work as an integral member of the team, attending and contributing to the established Oxford multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.The post-holder will share responsibilities to review patients on the day unit, supporting the fellows and staff grades, and independently lead outpatient clinics.
The postholder will provide advice and support to the other paediatric specialists within CHOX Children’s Services and paediatricians within the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance.
Chemotherapyprescribing
The Post holder will prescribe SACT ( systemic anti cancer therapy) as per the guidelines in the prescribing policy.
OutpatientCare:
On-treatment outpatient care is delivered on Kamran’s Day Care, a separate area for the administration of chemotherapy, blood products and assessment of patients. The successful candidate will be expected to see patients and support the clinical fellows/speciality doctors in DayCare.
Follow-up clinics for patients not on active treatment occur in the dedicated Children’s Outpatients. Children’sOutpatientsisalsothesiteforhaematologyfollowupandbenignhaematologyclinics,

The service has weekly malignant haematology multidisciplinary team (MDT), solid tumour & lymphoma, Teenage and Young Adult (TYA), psycho–oncology, neuro-oncology and sarcoma meetings. Patients are reviewed and management plans enacted at these meetings. All MDTs are well supported by integrated surgical oncology, pathology and diagnostic radiology teams.
