Production & Quality Engineer | Manchester | £65,000 per annum\n\nThe Opportunity:\n\nAn exciting opportunity has arisen with one of the UK’s leading rolling stock businesses to join their team as a Production & Quality Engineer. With their overhaul engineering function transitioning inhouse, our client has commissioned the build of a state of the art overhaul facility which will be the first of its kind for their business.\n\nThe role is highly autonomous with them responsible for supporting the overhaul of various rolling stock assets while ensuring safety, efficiency and quality targets are met. In the early project phase, they will define facility layouts, specify equipment and develop production procedures.
Once the initial setup is complete, the focus shifts to continuous improvement and operational optimisation.\n\nKey responsibilities:\n\nThe Production & Quality Engineer is responsible for managing production activities to meet targets while ensuring compliance with regulations. They’ll be critically reviewing equipment productivity during commissioning, conducting demonstrations to identify process improvements and continuously refine production programs for efficiency and quality. The role includes assessing depot design and layout, forecasting material and service needs and providing technical support for production and maintenance operations.\n\nCandidate Essentials:\n\nProduction & Quality Engineering Experience – Preferably in the railway industry, working with heavy equipment like lathes, wheelset presses, and welding.\nStrong Planning & Organizational Skills – Proven ability to manage tasks efficiently.\nTechnical Procedure Expertise – Skilled in analysing and writing documentation.\nProblem-Solving Methodologies – Familiarity with tools like 5W2H and 5 Whys.\nLean Manufacturing & Six Sigma – Experience in process optimization is highly desirable.\nTechnical Proficiency – PC literate, with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and software.\nQualifications:\n\nLevel 6 Engineering Degree or higher\nwill consider HNC/D (level 4/5) in Engineering with strong and relevant experience.\nDesirable:\n\nStrong planning and organizational skills with analytical thinking.\nHighly goal-oriented and proactive, capable of working independently.\nResilient under pressure, able to multitask effectively in stressful conditions.\nEffective leadership, motivating teams and ensuring deadlines are met.\nDecisive problem-solving, tackling employee, system, and equipment challenges.\nCollaborative team player, using influence to resolve issues efficiently.\nAdaptable and flexible, managing change with ease.\nStrategic problem-solving approach, thoroughly assessing situations before making decisions.\nStrong communication skills, adept at navigating multinational and diverse environments.\nHow the apply for the [Job title] role:\n\nIf you are interested in this position, then please apply via this job board.
