Business Development Manager
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Identifying new business opportunities, including new markets, new clients, new partnerships, or new products and services.
2. Creating strategies to successfully reach new business opportunities.
3. Building relationships with new clients, gauging their needs, and developing proposals to address these needs.
4. Maintaining and developing relationships with current clients.
5. Pitching sales and products to new and existing clients.
6. Attending conferences and events to build relationships with industry partners and staying up to date with new trends.
7. Creating sales forecasts and actively working towards reaching them.
8. Possessing a strong understanding of the company's products, the competition in the industry, and positioning.
9. Managing and training a business development team.
Skills and Qualifications
1. The ability to sell ideas, products, and services.
2. Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask.
3. A strategic and creative mind.
4. Strong leadership qualities to lead a team.
5. Excellent customer service skills.
6. Technical skills to understand and propose products or solutions by focusing on the client's requirements.
7. Solid IT skills and knowledge of necessary software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other statistical analysis software.
8. The ability to motivate themselves and others.
9. A solid understanding of business and marketing principles.
Experience Requirements
To succeed in their job, Business Development Managers need extensive sales experience and a strong sales record. Employers usually require candidates to have a proven ability to hit sales targets, bring in new business, and build and sustain good business relationships. Experience within a relevant business sector will be advantageous, and some employers may also require some management experience.
