Langham Recruitment are supporting a leading optics and photonics organisation in their search for a Senior Optical Systems Engineer to join their team in Torquay.

You'd be joining a global leader in high-performance photonics and precision motion technologies. Known for its innovative approach, the company delivers cutting-edge solutions across various industries, including aerospace, defence, industrial, and biomedical sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design and development of high-power fibre-optic amplifier subsystems and their components.
* Ensure that projects meet deadlines, milestones, and remain within budget.
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including optical, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
* Oversee prototype build and assembly, including fibre-optic splicing, mechanical/electrical assembly, and opto-electronic testing.
* Develop and execute test plans for both functional and environmental verification of photonic systems and components.
* Interact with customers to understand specifications and clearly present results to both internal and external stakeholders.
* Build strong relationships with technical and business experts.
* Conduct technical reviews and produce detailed reports on project progress and outcomes.
Background:
* At least 3 years of relevant experience in the optics/photonics industry, with a focus on optical amplifiers.
* Proven experience in developing fibre-optic or laser products.
* Hands-on experience with building and testing fibre-optic components or opto-electronic modules.
* Experience in generating proposals and managing the financial and technical aspects of development projects.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage customers and deliver technical presentations.
* A degree or PhD in Engineering or Physics, with a focus on Optics, Photonics, or Fibre Optics.
